Dirt Racing and Time in Trans Am Series Have 17-Year-Old Primed for Watkins Glen

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 7, 2026) – The General Tire 100 Friday at Watkins Glen International will mark Carson Brown’s first career road-course start in the ARCA Menards Series. But if you’re thinking the 17-year-old will need all 41 laps to figure out the nuances of turning left and right around the 2.45-mile, seven-turn road course in upstate New York, think again.

Despite his youth, Brown brings a repertoire of racing skills to Watkins Glen and his No. 28 Klean Freak Chevrolet from Pinnacle Racing Group, including race-winning road-course ability in Trans Am’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.

In 2025, Brown made five TA2 starts, which included Watkins Glen. He qualified third and finished third in his July visit to the track, and it served as a prelude to Brown’s first TA2 victory two months later when he won at VIRginia International Raceway near Alton.

“I drove for TeamSLR, and the owners, Scott Lagasse Sr. and Scott Lagasse Jr., are both former drivers. They’re very good mentors and their cars are really good, too,” Brown said. “We ended up finishing about three spots better every race, and by the time we got to VIR, we were like, ‘This is our time.’ I qualified second and, at first, was just trying to pace myself, but ended up racing really hard for the lead, and then I pulled away for the win.”

Brown won by 1.748 seconds. The three TA2 races that preceded that win obviously helped, but so did Brown’s prodigious dirt-track background. His dirt experience started in Legend Cars and continued in winged and non-winged 600cc Micro Sprint Cars beginning in 2022. Brown delved into dirt Super Late Models in 2023, winning in his sixth start Aug. 19 at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio.

“My dirt experience has helped me adapt to new racetracks and new disciplines quicker,” Brown said. “Dirt tracks are always changing with the way the surface goes from tacky and smooth to dry and hard-packed, to the way the groove ends up – cushion, no cushion, a berm on the bottom. You’re forced to adapt every lap, so I’m used to experimenting and finding the feel that works best in a short amount of time.”

Brown and his ARCA counterparts have limited time to dial in their racecars before the General Tire 100. A 45-minute practice at 9:30 a.m. EDT is followed by a 20-minute group qualifying session at 10:30 a.m. That’s it for track time ahead of the 41-lap race at 1 p.m.

To take full advantage of the time available, Brown has been at the GM Tech Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, utilizing its simulator. As a development driver for Richard Childress Racing, Brown is immersed within Wise Optimization, the driver development arm of GM Motorsports.

“The sim sessions run by Josh Wise and Scott Speed are very helpful,” Brown said. “You learn your brake markers, your elevation changes, how the tires are going to grip up and where, what curbs are where, what curbs are taller than normal – it gets you prepared so that when you are out there on the track, you know what to expect. There’s still a learning curve, but it’s a little less steep.”

Brown’s ARCA results confirm that his pre-race preparation pays off. In five career ARCA starts, Brown has never finished outside the top-10. In fact, his average finish is fourth, a number bolstered by his win from the pole March 5 at Phoenix Raceway.

The sim time ahead of Friday’s race, combined with the TA2 race he ran last July at Watkins Glen, has given Brown a deep understanding of the track’s layout.

“Watkins Glen is a very fun racetrack. There’s a lot of elevation change, but it’s pretty flowy. It’s the closest a road course can get to being an oval with how the corners are shaped and how you have to carry speed through them,” Brown said.

Knowledge breeds confidence. Brown has both entering Watkins Glen, along with an extremely competent team.

“It’s my first road-course race in ARCA, but my mindset is pretty open,” Brown said. “Pinnacle Racing Group won the race last year, so winning is the expectation across the organization. It’s always the goal to come out on top. So, we’ll take all the prep work and get a baseline on the car in practice. We’ll put it all into play in the race and see how it shakes out at the end.”

This weekend, the ARCA Menards Series returns to Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International to kick off a quadrupleheader weekend of racing featuring ARCA, the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and culminating with the NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday, May 10.

For Kitzmiller, Friday afternoon’s General Tire 100 at The Glen presents an opportunity not only to continue sharpening his road racing skills, but also to chase a measure of redemption in the Finger Lakes of New York.

It’s a double-dose weekend of redemption for the successful Virginia entrepreneur.

A strong performance two weeks ago at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway unraveled just seven laps from the checkered flag, when Kitzmiller became an innocent victim in the “Big One,” resulting in a frustrating 33rd-place finish.

But Talladega’s misfortune isn’t the only setback Kitzmiller and his A.L.L. Construction Racing — CR7 Motorsports team are eager to overcome.

Last summer at Watkins Glen’s 2.45-mile road course, Kitzmiller showed significant improvement from practice to qualifying and into the race, only to be collected in a late-race skirmish — again with seven laps remaining — ultimately settling for a 17th-place finish in his ARCA road course debut.

With another year of experience under his belt — and a deeper understanding of the rhythm and discipline required to succeed on road courses — Kitzmiller enters the weekend focused on putting together a complete race.

Clean laps, track position and avoiding the kind of late-race chaos that has plagued him in the past are at the forefront of the team’s objectives.

The General Tire 100, scheduled for Friday afternoon, will serve as the first of two road course challenges on the ARCA Menards Series calendar, offering Kitzmiller a valuable opportunity to measure progress against a competitive field that often features a mix of series regulars and road course specialists.

For Kitzmiller and CR7 Motorsports, the mission is clear: turn past frustrations into forward momentum.

‘I won’t sit here and tell you I’ve got this place figured out, because I don’t,’ Kitzmiller said. ‘But I do feel a lot more comfortable than I did a year ago. We made big strides from the first lap of practice to the end of the race last time, and I think that gives us something to build on.

“If we can keep the car clean, stay out of trouble late and execute, there’s no reason we can’t come out of here with a solid finish. That’s the goal — just put together a full race and give ourselves a shot at the end.’”

Despite the setbacks, the underlying pace has been there for Kitzmiller and his team — something that hasn’t gone unnoticed heading into the weekend.

From the steady gains made in his road course debut at Watkins Glen to the front-running speed he showcased at Talladega Superspeedway before being caught in late-race chaos, the ingredients for a breakthrough performance are evident.

Now, it’s about putting those pieces together when it counts most.

Kitzmiller emphasized that bouncing back from both disappointments isn’t just important — it’s necessary as the season begins to take shape.

“You look at both races, and it’s frustrating because we had something to show for it,” Kitzmiller said. “Watkins Glen last year, we kept getting better every time we hit the track and felt like we were in position to have a really solid finish before things got out of our control late.

“Then, Talladega — I truly believe we had a car capable of winning that race. We did everything right, put ourselves where we needed to be, and just got caught up in something we couldn’t avoid.

“That’s part of racing, but at the same time, you don’t forget those opportunities. For us, it’s about turning that frustration into motivation. We know we’ve got the speed, we know we can put ourselves in contention — now it’s about finishing the job. If we can do that this weekend, it would mean a lot for our team and give us some momentum moving forward.”

While Kitzmiller continues to grow more comfortable with the fundamentals of road course racing in dry conditions, Friday’s forecast presents a new variable.

The potential for rain could force teams onto wet-weather tires, dramatically changing the complexion of the race and placing an even greater emphasis on driver control and adaptability around the seven-turn circuit.

Still, the West Virginian is hopeful the weather holds off, allowing the race to unfold under more predictable circumstances rather than turning the already fast and technical road course into a slick, survival-style challenge.

“I think we’ve made some really good gains on the dry side of things, and that’s where I’d like to keep building,” Kitzmiller said. “If it rains, it rains — everyone has to deal with the same conditions — but that definitely throws a curveball, especially at a place like Watkins Glen where everything happens so fast.

“You go from trying to hit your marks and carry speed to just trying to keep the car underneath you and stay on track. That’s a whole different mindset. We’ll be ready for it if we have to be, but I’m definitely hoping we get a clean, dry race and can show what we’ve learned over the past year.”

SEBRING, Fla., (May 7, 2026) – Colorado MotorSport by Flying Lizard returns to Sebring International Raceway this weekend for another packed SRO America race weekend fielding entries in both Pirelli GT4 America and GT America Powered by AWS at the iconic Florida circuit. The event runs May 8-10, with practice sessions beginning Thursday ahead of a full slate of racing action.

“Sebring is one of the toughest tracks we visit all year,” said Darren Law, Program Manager of Flying Lizard Motorsports. “The surface is incredibly demanding on both the cars and drivers, so it’s always a real test of preparation and execution. We’ve continued to build momentum with this group over the opening rounds of the season, and the goal this weekend is to keep pushing forward.”

In Pirelli GT4 America competition, Zach Lumsden and Kris Wilson return aboard the No. 413 Colorado MotorSport Flying Lizard BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO following a podium finish at their first endurance race together at Circuit of the Americas. The pairing continues to gain momentum in their first full season together and now heads into one of the largest fields of the year, with 40 entries set to compete across the PRO-AM, Silver, and AM classes.

The weekend returns to the traditional doubleheader sprint format, with race one scheduled for Friday from 5:40 PM to 6:40 PM ET, followed by race two on Saturday from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM ET. Fans attending Saturday’s race will also have the opportunity to participate in the GT4 America grid walk from 12:15 PM to 12:45 PM ET, giving spectators an up-close look at the cars and teams before the green flag flies.

Craig Lumsden will once again pilot the No. 610 Colorado MotorSport Flying Lizard BMW M4 GT4 (G82) EVO in GT America Powered by AWS. Continuing his rookie full-season campaign, Lumsden has shown steady progression throughout the opening rounds and now takes on the unique challenge of Sebring’s notoriously rough and technical layout. The GT America field features 18 entries competing across the GT4, Cup, and SRO3 classes.

GT America race one will take place Saturday from 3:35 PM to 4:15 PM ET, with race two scheduled for Sunday morning from 10:15 AM to 10:55 AM ET.

Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series at Watkins Glen International… The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen International this weekend for the Go Bowling at The Glen, marking the 43rd Cup Series appearance at the 2.45-mile road course. Richard Childress Racing has earned two NASCAR Cup Series wins, along with eight top-five, 23 top-10 finishes, and three poles, while leading 275 laps at the track. Robby Gordon won the 2003 event, leading the final 30 laps to score his third victory with RCR. Kevin Harvick captured the 2006 race, edging Tony Stewart for the victory, and claiming his first win at Watkins Glen International. The victory was Harvick’s first on a road course and came in his 200th career Cup start. Dale Earnhardt won three poles (1990, 1992, 1996) for the Welcome, N.C.-based organization.

Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series at Watkins Glen International… Kevin Harvick captured Richard Childress Racing’s lone NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory at Watkins Glen. Harvick dominated the 2007 race, leading 49 of 82 laps and led a one-two finish with teammate Jeff Burton. RCR has captured 10 top-five and 25 top-10 finishes at the road course.

What are some of the things you like about Watkins Glen International, and what are some of the things that are difficult about that track?

“Watkins Glen International is very fast for a road course. The bus stop, the esses, a big chunk of the speed at Watkins Glen comes from those two sections. The other sections are more self-explanatory, but it’s a tough track. It’s been my hardest track to get a grip on, but I feel like going there does present some opportunities because you have some strategy and different things that can play out. Qualifying is pretty important there as well. I’m looking forward to getting there in our Bass Pro Shops/Winchester AA White Flyer Chevrolet.”

Kyle Busch and the No. 8 zone Jalapeño Lime Chevrolet at Watkins Glen International… Sunday’s Go Bowling at The Glen will mark Kyle Busch’s 21st NASCAR Cup Series start at Watkins Glen International. At the 2.45-mile road course, Busch has completed 1,784 of 1,806 laps, a 98.8 percent completion rate, led 249 laps, earned three pole positions (2008, 2011 and 2017), and secured two victories (2008 and 2013). He holds an average starting position of 8.0 and an average finishing position of 12.2.

What makes Watkins Glen International unique?

“I love Watkins Glen. It’s always been a great place, great countryside, and is a lot of fun. Watkins Glen has always kind of been considered one of the superspeedways of road courses; it’s just a really fast course. A lot of speed there. I always look at every single racetrack wanting to win, and fortunately I’ve won there in the O’Reilly Series and the Cup Series. I’m excited to get back on the road courses again. Back in the years when we used to have only two road courses on the schedule, you would’ve kind of looked at it as a, ‘well hey you know it’s kind of like an off-weekend. Just treat it like an off-weekend, it doesn’t mean much if you run well or if you don’t,’ but now there’s six road courses on the schedule. There’s enough of a bulk of a schedule of races that you got to be a good road racer. I feel like being ahead of the game in that and being able to win races there in the past lends itself fairly well for me.”

With rain being potentially a factor this weekend, how do you prepare for that possibility?

“The biggest thing is looking ahead, getting with your crew chief and your engineers and planning how you want to build your set-up for that. If we know there’s going to be rain on Sunday, then we’re pretty much going to build a rain setup into the racecar, but if the weather forecast looks good to where it doesn’t look like there’s going to be rain on race day, then you’ll build for more of a dry type of setup. There are little differences that you can do in your racecar for the dry versus the wet. We won’t really know until just a few days ahead of time. The biggest thing that you look for there is when you go to the racetrack, you’re not allowed to change the racecar once you unload the racecar out of your trailer. Your spring settings and the majority of how your suspension is all bolted on and set up, you can’t change those. The only thing you’re changing is air pressure in tires, the height of your racecar, and maybe some shocks. That’s all you’re allowed to change, so you definitely got to be ahead of the game and being able to prepare whichever direction you plan to race in.”

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of the racetrack at Watkins Glen International?

“Each year we’ve always done the Watkins Glen State Park hike. Really neat to do that. It’s always a great area to come to, it’s always beautiful, and looking forward to seeing what it looks like this time of year.”

Jesse Love and the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet at Watkins Glen International… Jesse Love has made two NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starts at Watkins Glen International, earning his best finish of eighth after starting 11th in 2024 as a rookie. The young gun has also competed in two ARCA Menards Series races at the New York road course, earning top-three finishes in both races, including a win in 2023 after starting fourth.

Last Road Course Outing… In February at Circuit of the Americas, Love qualified 11th and spent most of the afternoon running inside the top-10, ultimately finishing fourth to post both his career-best result and second top-five finish on road course.

Last Week… Rolling off 21st in last Saturday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, Love advanced into the top-10 in Stage 1 before handling issues hampered the team’s progress. Despite falling a lap down in Stage 3, a caution with less than 20 laps remaining got the driver of the No. 2 Chevrolet the free pass to get back on the lead lap. On the final restart, the 21-year-old raced his way into the top-10, ultimately securing a ninth-place finish and demonstrating the team’s ability to overcome adversity. Love has never finished outside of the top-10 at the Fort Worth facility.

Consistently Consistent… Love’s average finish of 9.0 is third-best among full time drivers in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

“Watkins Glen should be fun. It’ll be interesting to see what the weather does, if it rains or not. I’d like it to rain; I think that would be cool because I won a race there before in the rain in ARCA. I think it’s always cool when the track gets wet when you’re on rain tires. If it doesn’t rain, we’re just looking to build our momentum on the road courses this year. We’re trying some different things, and I think we’re going to hit. Hopefully it all goes well, we get a good day with some stage points and be prepared for all different situations. I always think Danny (Stockman, crew chief) does a good job calling a good race with strategy. So, I’m looking forward to it.”

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet at Watkins Glen International… Austin Hill has made four career NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starts at Watkins Glen International. Last season at the New York road course, the Winston, Georgia native qualified 10th, scored stage points and brought the car home to a career-best finish at The Glen in fourth.

Previous WGI Winner… Hill has competed in one NASCAR Truck Series race at the 2.45-mile circuit in August 2021. In his lone Truck Series start, the 32-year-old started from the pole, led 35 laps, won Stage 2 and captured the checkered flag.

Chasing a Road Course W… Hill continues the search for his first O’Reilly Auto Parts Series road course victory – the only style of track that the veteran racer has not won at thus far into his series career. In seven road course events in 2025, Hill earned five top-five finishes. In February at Circuit of the Americas, the veteran racer qualified third, won Stage 1, and finished sixth in Stage 2. In the final stage, the driver of the No. 21 Chevrolet came close to victory, finishing runner-up.

Last Week… Starting seventh in last Saturday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, Hill and the No. 21 team ran consistently inside the top-10 throughout the 300-mile event. He earned stage points by finishing eighth in both Stages 1 and 2, then capped the day with a seventh-place result, his best finish since placing sixth at Martinsville Speedway in March.
