Mazda Earns the Award for the Third Time, Following the Mazda3 in 2020

HIROSHIMA, Japan, Apr 2, 2026 – (JCN Newswire) – At the 2026 World Car of the Year Awards hosted by the World Car Awards (WCA), Mazda EZ-6/Mazda6e from Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) won the 2026 World Car Design of the Year (WCDOTY), one of the special awards. This marks the third time a Mazda model has earned this award, following the Mazda Roadster (known overseas as the Mazda MX-5) in 2016 and the Mazda3 in 2020.

The awards were officially launched in January 2004 with automotive journalists around the world. For the 2026 award, the winner was selected from ninety eligible models through votes cast by 98 automotive journalists worldwide. The final results were announced by the World Car Awards (WCA) on April 1st local time in New York, USA.

The Mazda EZ-6/Mazda6e represents a new challenge in Mazda’s journey toward electrification, pursuing both preservation and innovation of the distinctive design that Mazda has cultivated over the years. The Mazda EZ-6 is a BEV launched in China in October 2024. It combines Mazda’s signature design and Jinba-ittai driving performance – the oneness between man and machine – with the electric and smart technologies of its collaborative partner*1 . The Mazda6e was developed based on the Mazda EZ-6 with further refinement to meet the driving performance and functionality needs of each market. It went on sale in Europe in September 2025, and plans are in place to introduce the model also in Australia, ASEAN, and other regions in 2026 as Mazda intends to respond to the growing demand for BEV in these markets.

Tyler Reddick Dominates Darlington as 750HP Package Faces First Major Test

Darlington Raceway has always had a way of revealing the truth. It doesn’t matter how fast a car looks on paper or how strong a team feels heading in—“The Track Too Tough to Tame” exposes everything. This time, it was Tyler Reddick who rose above the challenge, putting together a performance that answered one of the biggest questions fans had coming into the race: how would the 750 HP package really hold up under pressure?

The Impact of the 750HP Package on Competition

NASCAR’s decision to move to a 750-horsepower target for tracks under 1.5 miles was designed to put more control back into the drivers’ hands. By increasing engine output from the previous 670HP baseline, officials hoped to incentivize throttle discipline and tire management. At Darlington, this played out perfectly. Drivers were forced to “pedal” the car more through the narrow corners, rewarding those who could save their Goodyear rubber for the long run. Brad Keselowski, who finished as the runner-up, noted that Reddick’s “rocket” was the class of the field, especially during the final 30-lap sprint.

Reddick’s Resilience Amidst Electrical Gremlins

Winning at Darlington is hard enough, but doing it without a functional cooling suit is a Herculean task. Reddick reported voltage issues as early as Lap 2, which forced his crew chief, Billy Scott, to instruct him to kill all non-essential electrical drains. This meant no fans and no cool suit in the South Carolina humidity. Despite these obstacles and a pit road penalty that sent him to the rear, Reddick erased a seven-second deficit to Brad Keselowski in the final stage. According to the race recap, Reddick’s fourth win of the year puts him in elite company, joining Dale Earnhardt (1987) and Bill Elliott (1992) as the only drivers to win four of the season’s first six races.

The Entertainment Evolution: Digital Precision and High Stakes

The intensity we see on the track is mirrored in how fans engage with the sport today. Whether it’s tracking live telemetry or diving into interactive digital experiences, the demand for high-stakes, real-time action is growing. Just as teams use simulations to predict tire falloff, digital entertainment enthusiasts look for platforms that offer the same level of precision and variety. Major digital hubs like Gaming Club or DraftKings have become part of this broader landscape for sports fans, providing a wide array of options for those who enjoy the thrill of the “win,” much like Steam does for the gaming community. This blend of traditional sport and modern digital engagement is quickly becoming the new standard for the 2026 fan experience.

Manufacturers’ Duel: Toyota Stretches Its Early Lead

Toyota’s dominance in the 2026 season is becoming the story of the garage. With Reddick leading the standings and teammate Bubba Wallace close behind, the Toyota Camry XSE has found a sweet spot with the new technical regulations. Chevrolet remains the winningest manufacturer in the Next Gen era, but Ford’s Brad Keselowski proved the Blue Oval is a factor, leading a race-high 142 laps at Darlington. The parity is there, but 23XI Racing seems to have unlocked a secret to long-run speed that the rest of the field is currently chasing.

Looking Ahead: The New ‘Chase’ and Martinsville’s ChallengeAs the series heads to Martinsville, the focus remains on the modernized “Chase” format. The return to a points-based postseason without the “win-and-you’re-in” volatility has placed a massive premium on finishing every lap. Reddick currently holds a 61-point lead over Wallace, but with 26 races in the regular season, the grind is only just beginning. If Darlington was the test for the 750 HP package, the upcoming short tracks will be the final exam for whether this era of NASCAR truly belongs to the drivers again.

  • Double Duty: In addition to his NCTS duties, Hall will also compete in Saturday’s ARCA Menards Series East race at Rockingham. Hall will drive the No. 24 Chevrolet SS for SPS Racing, the same team he raced for last weekend in the season opener at Hickory Motor Speedway.
  • Quoting Hall: You haven’t raced a truck in a while, but had a chance to learn a lot at the test in February. What can you take from that test and apply into the race?

“I was able to learn a bunch about these trucks when I got to drive one of them at the test. These trucks are super different from anything that I am used to driving, and the main thing I want to pick up on is the dirty air aspect since I’m not used to it. I feel like I have been putting as much work into this weekend as I possibly can, whether that be from watching film, driving in the sim, or practicing pit stops. I’m very appreciative of everyone at Comprehensive Logistics, Greg Fowler, Josh Morris, Cody Efaw, and everyone at the team for giving me this opportunity. My main goal is to go out there and have a solid run, keep the truck in one piece, and make the most out of it.”

No. 42 Vetted Ventures Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Parker Eatmon | Crew Chief: Landon Polinski

  • Welcome to the Big Leagues: Wilson, North Carolina’s Parker Eatmon will make his NCTS debut driving Niece Motorsports’ No. 42 Chevrolet. The 19-year-old rookie competes full-time in the CARS Tour Late Model Stock Series, and is a past winner of the Thanksgiving Classic 250 at Southern National Motorsports Park.
  • Eatmon’s Rockingham Stats:

Parker Eatmon will make his first NCTS start at Rockingham Speedway on Friday.

  • Polinski’s Rockingham Stats:

Landon Polinski will make his first NCTS start as a crew chief at Rockingham Speedway on Friday.

  • On the Truck: Eatmon’s No. 42 Chevrolet will race with support from Vetted Ventures, who has sponsored him throughout his Late Model career. Vetted Ventures is a private sales and acquisitions management firm.
  • Recapping Darlington: Conner Jones and the DQS Solutions & Staffing team had a hard-fought night in Darlington. Jones qualified in 19th and remained consistent throughout the opening two stages. The team made some adjustments to the handling on pit road, which helped the No. 42 Silverado advance through the field. Late in the race, however, Jones made contact with another competitor, which cut down his right-front tire and forced him into the outside wall. The crew made repairs to allow Jones to finish the race, crossing the line in 16th-place.
  • Owner Points Outlook: Niece Motorsports’ No. 42 team gained three spots in the owner points standings following Conner Jones’ 16th-place outing at Darlington Raceway. Now scored in 17th, the No. 42 trails Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 truck by five points, and also leads their No. 12 truck by one point. Heading into Rockingham, the No. 42 team is 35 points behind ThorSport Racing’s No. 99 truck, which currently holds onto the final spot in the Chase.
  • Quoting Eatmon: Rockingham might be considered one of the fastest tracks that you’ve raced at before, so how much different is it compared to your short track background?

“The trucks drive so different from the late models that I’m used to racing, so that has been a fun challenge for me to get used to. They carry so much more speed, and the aerodynamics are huge. I think the biggest difference between the two is just how much heavier the trucks feel, which really affects the handling. My main goal for this weekend is just to run all of the laps and continue to gain experience which will help me throughout the rest of the season. We have a really sweet looking Vetted Ventures paint scheme on our truck this weekend, so I’m hoping that we can run well for them.”

About Vetted Ventures: Vetted Ventures is a pioneer in revolutionizing private sales and acquisitions management through an ecosystem of exclusive clients with the ability to be represented by one company across different industries. We aim to provide our clients with the opportunities they seek backed by the service they deserve. To learn more about the company, please visit www.Vetted-Ventures.com.

  • Happy Birthday, Andrés!: Pérez de Lara turns 21-years-old on Thursday, April 2nd.
  • Recapping Darlington: Andrés Pérez de Lara and the Telcel team made progress throughout the race in Darlington before their night came to an early close. Pérez de Lara started the event in 21st, but dropped back early in stage one. The No. 44 pit crew was phenomenal all night long, gaining several spots on pit road. After making adjustments, the truck vaulted into the top-10. Unfortunately, after two competitors hit the wall in front of him, Pérez de Lara had nowhere to go and collided into the slower trucks. With too much damage to continue, the team was scored in 32nd-place.
  • Driver Points Outlook: Pérez de Lara’s crash in Darlington resulted in a loss of two positions in the points standings. The sophomore driver is currently shown in ninth-place overall, 15 points behind Corey Heim.
  • Quoting Pérez de Lara: Your team has brought fast trucks to all of the opening races this year, so how do you keep your momentum up?

“Definitely, our team has had a pretty strong opening to our year. If we could have gotten through Darlington clean, we would probably be inside the top-five in points, which says a lot about where we are at with the No. 44 group. We just have to keep pushing hard and take our good results whenever we can get them, but try and minimize our mistakes. The team was really fast here last year at Rockingham, and we made a lot of gains in the test, so I’m hoping we can keep that up and carry that into the weekend with our Precision Vehicle Logistics De Mexico Chevy.”

After making some adjustments on pit road, the No. 45 came to life and finished second in stage two. In a thrilling final stage, Chastain swapped the lead back and forth several times. The team led the white flag lap, but got passed in turn three for the final run to the checkered flag.
  • Owner Points Outlook: Niece Motorsports’ No. 45 team is knocking on the door of the points head heading into Rockingham. Following Ross Chastain’s second-place finish in Darlington, the team is now positioned in second-place, just 10 points behind Front Row Motorsports’ No. 38 team which leads the standings. The No. 45 has a three-point gap over Spire Motorsports’ No. 7 Chevrolet in third, and a 43-point buffer over the Chase cutline.
  • Quoting Lewis: Now that you’ve had a chance to get a race under your belt with the team, how has your communication and teamwork been?

“I feel like as a group, we have improved and grown a lot since we first started working together on the No. 45 team. Phil (Gould) and I have worked really well with each other in the race we’ve run, being in the shop, and getting to learn him more. The team chemistry is a lot better, and I feel like I’m more prepared than I was at the test. I’m looking forward to getting out there in Rockingham on Friday and hope to have the same speed in our J.F. Electric Chevy that we had at the test.”

TOYOTA RACING Weekly Preview 04.01.26

This Week in Motorsports: March 30 – April 5, 2026

NOAPS/NCTS/ARCA EAST: Rockingham Speedway – April 3-4

PLANO, Texas (April 1, 2026) – While the Cup Series is off this weekend, NASCAR’s O’Reilly and Truck Series head to Rockingham Speedway for the second consecutive season. They will be joined at the 0.94-mile short oval by the ARCA Menards Series East in its second straight race weekend to begin its 2026 season.

NASCAR National Series – NOAPS/NCTS

Crews looks to continue solid start to O’Reilly Series career … Through three starts in his O’Reilly Auto Parts Series career, Brent Crews holds two top-10 finishes after his 10th-place result last weekend at Martinsville Speedway. The now 18-year-old, Toyota Development Driver earned his other top-10 run in his series debut at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in February by finishing seventh. Crews has also started inside the top-10 in all three of his races this season – seventh at COTA, fifth at Phoenix Raceway and fourth at Martinsville. He also won the ARCA East race at Rockingham Speedway last year.

Honeycutt, Ruggiero in the thick of title fight … Four races into the 2026 Truck Series season, TRICON Garage’s Kaden Honeycutt and Gio Ruggiero find themselves within striking distance of the series points lead heading to Rockingham Speedway this weekend. Honeycutt sits second in the point standings, just 33 points out of the lead, off the back of three top-10s in the first four races this season – including a fourth-place result last time out in Darlington, where he captured his first career pole position in the Truck Series. Ruggiero is fourth in the points standings, 45 points behind of the lead after also capturing three top-10s so far this season. Both drivers finished inside the top-10 of last year’s race at Rockingham, with Honeycutt finishing sixth and Ruggiero in 10th.

Heim, Andretti to pilot TRICON Tundras … Corey Heim and Adam Andretti will be behind the wheel of the TRICON Garage No. 1 and No. 5 Toyota Tundra TRD Pros at Rockingham. Heim enters the weekend off his thrilling victory in the No. 5 at Darlington two weeks ago, making his third Trucks start of 2026. The Toyota Development Driver has top-five finishes in both of his races so far this year – fifth at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta) and the win at Darlington. For Andretti, this will also be his third Truck start of the 2026 season, having run the races at EchoPark Speedway and on the Streets of St. Petersburg back in February, finishing 12th and 23rd in those races, respectively.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series East

Toyota brings strong lineup to Rockingham … For this weekend’s ARCA Menards Series East race in Rockingham, Team Toyota is primed for its second consecutive series win at the short oval after Crews’ triumph last year. Max Reaves will once again pilot the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 this weekend, coming off a second-place finish last weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway after he started from pole position. For Nitro Motorsports, Gavan Boschele and Wesley Slimp will pilot the No. 25 and 70 entries this weekend. Slimp will make his second start this season in ARCA competition after running the season-opener for the national series at Daytona in February. For Boschele, this will be his second career start in ARCA competition after he ran the national series race at Berlin Raceway in 2024, where he finished eighth.

I know that Andrew (Overstreet, crew chief) and everyone on this Jarrett team will build off of that notebook from last year and give me a car that is just as strong as what we’ve had all season to this point. Caruth has one NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series start at Rockingham, earning a strong fourth-place finish.

Rajah Caruth

I’m glad we were able to test there earlier this year because it gave us a good feel for how the track changes and what we need out of the car. I’m looking forward to getting back with Mardy (Lindley, crew chief) and the No. 88 team this weekend and seeing how we stack up.
