Verizon Team News and Notes

· This Week’s Verizon Dodge … Justin Allgaier will pilot Penske Racing chassis PRS-007 in Saturday afternoon’s Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This is the same Verizon Dodge that Allgaier scored his first NASCAR victory with at Bristol Motor Speedway in March. The 2009 Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year then raced it at Kentucky Speedway in June, where he started third and finished eighth, at BMS in August, where the Riverton, Ill.-native started fourth and finished 33rd after being involved in an incident that eliminated him from contention after 186 of 250 laps, and most recently at Auto Club Speedway in October, where he started 11th and finished eighth.

· Allgaier at Homestead … In two previous NNS starts at HMS, Allgaier has recorded one top-20 finish and has completed 97.8 percent of the laps contested (391 of 400). Additionally, the 24-year-old driver has an average starting position of 23rd and an average finish of 24th.

One Race Remaining … With 34 of 35 races of the 2010 season in the record books, Allgaier has accumulated two poles, one win, eight top-five and 20 top-10 finishes, an average starting position of 11.7 and an average finish of 11.5. Allgaier has led 221 laps of competition and has completed 97.6 percent of the laps contested (6,141 of 6,289) so far this season.

End of an Era … The season-ending 300-miler will mark the end of an era as Allgaier makes his final start for Penske Racing, and team sponsor Verizon makes its final appearance on the No. 12 NNS entry. Over the course of their two-year relationship, Allgaier, Verizon and Penske Racing accumulated three poles, one win, 11 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes in 69 races.

Get to the Points … Allgaier ranks fourth in the NNS championship point standings heading into this weekend’s event at HMS. He trails current point leader and Penske Racing teammate Brad Keselowski by 930 points, and third-place contender Kyle Busch by 195 points.

Best in Class … Allgaier’s fourth-place position in the point standings is best among full-time, Nationwide Series-only drivers. Allgaier leads fellow Nationwide-only driver Trevor Bayne, currently ranked eighth, by 658 points.

Penske Racing at Homestead … In six previous NNS starts at HMS, Penske Racing entries have recorded one win (Ryan Newman, November, 2005), one top-five and two top-10 finishes along with one pole award. Penske Dodges have been atop the leaderboard for 67 circuits in their time at Homestead, and have completed 924 of 1,200 laps contested.

Penske Racing in 2010 … With one race remaining in the 2010 season, Penske Racing’s two NASCAR Nationwide Series entries have recorded seven poles, seven wins, a combined 33 top-five and 48 top-10 finishes. Penske Dodges have completed 12,429 of 12,578 laps contested, and have been atop the leaderboard for 1,368 laps with drivers Allgaier and Keselowski.

· Meet the Driver … Fans can meet Allgaier on Thursday, November 18 from 6 – 7 p.m. EST at the Verizon Wireless store located at 13623 S. Dixie Hwy. in Miami, Fla. On Saturday, November 20, he will sign for fans at the Penske Racing souvenir trailer, located in the midway at HMS from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.

Justin Allgaier on Homestead-Miami Speedway

“Racing at Homestead is a lot of fun. You can race three-and-four wide in the corners, but everyone has to funnel in line when you get to the straightaways. For the most part, it’s an action-packed race. It’s a cool weekend because everyone knows that’s their last chance to win for the year. This year will be even more interesting given the fact that it will be the last race for the current Nationwide Series cars. Everyone pushes just a little harder in that race, because the finish you leave Homestead with can do more for you, or more to hurt you heading into the off season. So, leaving Homestead with a good finish is extremely important as it sets the tone for the teams as they get ready for 2011.”

Crew chief Chad Walter on Homestead-Miami Speedway

“I’m looking forward to a strong run to close out the season with Justin in Miami. We have made significant progress in our intermediate program this year, and we hope to finish strong with the last race of the current Nationwide Series car. To be able to give Justin a win would be a terrific parting gift. To do that, we’ll have to beat the No. 18 team and Kyle Busch, who will be the odds-on favorite this weekend. It would mean a lot to us to be able to accomplish that, knowing how successful that team has been all year long.”
