Roush Fenway Ends Season Strong; Looks to next season

CONCORD, N.C. (Dec. 15, 2010) – The 2010 NASCAR season was full of ups and downs for Roush Fenway. The organization started solid, got off path slightly at mid season and finished with a bang, winning the final two Sprint Cup events, two of the last three Nationwide races and placing six drivers in the top 10 of the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series’.

Roush Fenway had cars in both the top five of the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series, with the organization occupying one quarter of the 2010 Chase field and three of the top six spots in NASCAR’s highest level.

Roush Fenway won four times in the Sprint Cup Series in 2010 and four times in the Nationwide Series.

Below is a recap of some of the highlights and milestones from 2010.

Feb. 14 – Greg Biffle finishes third, while leading 27 laps and coming up just short of winning back-to-back Daytona 500s for Jack Roush. Biffle led the race at the end of 500 miles, but the race ended with a green-white-checkered finish. Roush Fenway placed three cars inside the top 10 of the ‘Great American Race.’

March 21 – Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle each start the season with five consecutive top-10 finishes.

March 28 – Greg Biffle scores a 10th-place finish at Martinsville, to get off to a career-best finish with six consecutive top-10 finishes.

June 19 – Carl Edwards wins from the pole in the inaugural Nationwide Series NASCAR race at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

July 10 – Roush Fenway turns its 1,000,000th mile in Sprint Cup racing at Chicagoland Speedway.

August 1 – Greg Biffle scores Roush Fenway’s fourth victory at Pocono Raceway, just five days after Jack Roush was injured in a plane accident in Wisconsin. Biffle presented Roush with the race trophy in the hospital the following week.

August 15 – Team owner Jack Roush returns to the race track in Brooklyn, Mich., less than three weeks after his accident.

Sept. 11 – Roush Fenway places three cars inside the 2010 Chase for the Sprint Cup, occupying one quarter of the 2010 ‘playoff’ field.

Oct. 2 – Trevor Bayne joins Roush Fenway Racing and competes in his first race for the organization at Kansas.

Oct. 3 – Greg Biffle wins the first of three Chase races for Roush Fenway in 2010.

Nov. 6 – Carl Edwards becomes the 13th NASCAR driver in the modern era to win 50 races and the third to accomplish the feat at Roush Fenway.

Nov. 12 – Carl Edwards wins his third Cup pole of the season at Phoenix. It was the most poles Edwards has ever won in a single Cup season.

Nov. 13 – Carl Edwards wins back-to-back Nationwide races at Texas and Phoenix. Edwards closed out the NNS season with top-10 finishes in eight of the last 10 races and finished second in the points.

Nov. 20 – Ricky Stenhouse Jr. clinches Roush Fenway’s 12th Raybestos Rookie award with a fourth-place finish in the Nationwide Series at Homestead. Stenhouse led four Roush Fenway cars in the top 10 of the race, including Trevor Bayne in 5th. Roush Fenway had three drivers finish in the top 10 in driver points in the NNS (Edwards – second, Menard – fifth and Bayne – sixth).

Nov. 21 – Matt Kenseth makes his 400th Sprint Cup start in the season finale at Homestead.

Nov. 21 – Carl Edwards closes out the season with back-to-back Sprint Cup victories and leads a Roush Fenway parade of four (Edwards), five (Kenseth) and sixth (Biffle) in the Sprint Cup standings.
