MIS SECURITY TEAM RECOGNIZED BY NASCAR AS ONE OF SPORT’S BEST

Speedway’s security director Jim Hobbs receives award at annual meetings in Charlotte, N.C.

BROOKLYN, Mich. (Jan. 21, 2011) — Michigan International Speedway takes great pride in keeping its fans, visitors and NASCAR drivers and personnel safe each and every time they visit the Irish Hills for race weekends.

Those efforts were recognized during NASCAR’s annual safety meetings in Charlotte, N.C. last week when MIS and its Security Director Jim Hobbs were honored with an Award of Excellence for garage/pit security. Hobbs’ award was one of three given out by NASCAR for having one of the industry’s top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend security teams.

It is the second time MIS and Hobbs have been honored with the sanctioning bodies’ excellence award, with the first coming in 2007.

“It was great to receive such a wonderful honor like this from NASCAR. To be recognized as one of the industry’s top garage and pit road security teams means a lot to all of us at MIS,” Hobbs said. “Even though this award was given to me, I see it more as a team achievement. We have an outstanding security team at MIS and everyone who visits our track has a great time in a safe environment because of our team. It’s more for them, than just for me.

“MIS gives us the tools we need to do our jobs well. With the amount of fans we have and the amount of people we work with, it truly is a joint effort that keeps this place safe and secure for everyone,” Hobbs continued.   Hobbs is a retired deputy sheriff with more than 30 years experience in law enforcement. He has been at MIS since 1997.

The MIS security team will again be in action this summer when the speedway hosts the Sprint Cup Series on June 17-19 for the Heluva Good! Sour Creams Dips 400 and again on August 19-21. Tickets for both Sprint Cup races will be available online at MISpeedway.com or by calling 800-354-1010 beginning on Feb. 1.
