Good Sam Club To Sponsor Bayne at Talladega and in the Sprint All Star Race

Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne and his Wood Brothers Race Team will carry the colors of the Good Sam Club in the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway on April 17 and in the NASCAR Sprint All Star Race on May 21.

Marcus Lemonis, Chairman and CEO of Good Sam Club and its sister company Camping World, said he’s thrilled to have Bayne and the Woods on board for a big weekend in April, which includes both the NASCAR race and Good Sam Days, where the camping club’s one million members can enjoy special deals at Camping World’s online store at www.campingworld.com and free food and hospitality at Camping World stores.

“It’ll be a great four-day celebration capped off by having Trevor Bayne race the No. 21 Good Sam Club Ford Fusion at Talladega,” Lemonis said.

Then, at the All Star race, the No. 21 also will carry a Camping World logo, but the most prominent space on the car will go to the Good Sam Club, which Lemonis said is most appropriate.

“The one million members of the Good Sam Club and the thousands of Good Sam RV parks nationwide are the real all stars,” he said.

For the sport of NASCAR and for the legions of fans of Bayne and the Wood Brothers, the sponsorship from Good Sam Club fits right in with the spirit of the camping club, whose members join together for enjoyable excursions.

Eddie Wood, co-owner of the Daytona 500-winning team, said he’s excited to have Good Sam Club come on board.

“It’s a really good opportunity for both of us,” Wood said, adding that the relationship got off to a great start when Lemonis chose a paint scheme similar to the one that Wood’s father Glen Wood had on his 1958 Ford convertible race car.

“I’m really proud of the history of this race team, so the paint scheme that Mr. Lemonis chose gave us an immediate connection,” Wood said. “It’s really cool.”

Wood pointed out that Bayne won’t be able to drive his Daytona 500-winning car at Talladega because it’s on display at the Daytona 500 Experience until next February, but he doesn’t see that as a problem.

“We’ve got another one that’s just as good, only in different colors,” he said, adding that Bayne and the Wood Brothers crew are looking forward to getting back to a restrictor-plate track like Daytona, where the style of racing features drivers working together in the draft.

“Trevor can get reacquainted with his drafting buddies,” Wood said.

Perhaps the most exiting part of the deal for NASCAR fans is that it puts the popular Daytona 500 winners in the All Star race.

“We really thank Good Sam Club and Camping World for making that happen,” said Wood, who had planned a limited 2011 schedule that did not include funding for the All Star race. “There have been a lot of questions and conversations about whether we were going to run the All Star race, and this is going to make a lot of people, including Trevor and us very happy.”

The Woods won the All Star race with driver Michael Waltrip in 1996, and Eddie Wood said he’s looking forward to being a part of the big race this year.

“We know how it feels to win that race,” he said.

About the Wood Brothers

The Wood Brothers Racing Team is NASCAR’s oldest active team, having fielded cars since 1950. Throughout their history they’ve been associated with only one manufacturer, Ford Motor Company, and most of their cars have carried the familiar No. 21.

Trevor Bayne’s victory in the 2011 Daytona 500 was the team’s fifth in NASCAR’s biggest race and its 98th overall. The team also has 117 poles.

Glen Wood, the team’s founder and first driver, is still active in the company. In the beginning his brothers Leonard, Ray Lee, Delano and Clay, were members of the team. Today, a second generation comprised of Glen’s sons Len and Eddie and daughter Kim, run the day-to-day operation of the team.
