Lally Hoping To ‘Crack Open” A “Wonderful’ Weekend

Mooresville, N.C. (9/8/2011) – The No. 71 Interstate Moving Services Ford Fusion team heads to Richmond International Raceway this weekend for the Wonderful Pistachios 400. The team earned a 26th place finish in its effort at Richmond earlier this spring and will look to improve upon that result this weekend.

Driver Andy Lally, has improved his finish at every racetrack he has returned to for a second time this season. He is hoping Richmond will be no different. Lally commented:

“It’s great to be racing in Virginia. Richmond is very close to the home of our sponsor, Interstate Moving Services. I had a blast racing here earlier in the year. Our run at this track in the spring was a huge confidence booster for me. We have shown a lot of speed recently, which is very encouraging. Last week, we had a fast car, but it just seemed to be one of those races where, if it wasn’t for bad luck, we’d have no luck at all. I like short track racing. It’s still something that is relatively new to me, but nonetheless one of my favorite forms of racing. This is the most competitive form of motorsports I’ve ever been a part of and I don’t think there is any type of racetrack that is more competitive than a short track. We were 26th here in the spring and 25th at Bristol two weeks ago, so I know that we have a competitive short track program. We will be looking to stay ahead of our strategy and out of trouble as we seek another solid finish this weekend.”

Crew chief Doug Richert has earned one career pole at Richmond and thirteen career top-10 finishes at the track. He remarked:

“Night racing always seems to make things a little more interesting. I think we will see the grip level of the track change in the early stages of the race. We showed that we have a capable short track program at Bristol and will look to put together an even better run this weekend.”

Team owner Kevin Buckler is a fan of Richmond as well. He said:

“Richmond is a great track. It has a short track feel but still offers a lot of opportunities for passing. We were fast here last time so this is the first time we are coming back to a track that we were already at and were competitive. We want to put together a good run as we race in the backyard of our partner sponsor, Interstate Moving Services. The team has done a really great job improving our program over the past six weeks. We’ve gained a lot of speed, which, in-turn, has helped Andy to gain a lot of confidence. Our team is to the garage area what Richmond is to other racetracks: small, fierce and competitive. I am proud of our guys and a strong run at Richmond can allow us to gain some more momentum as the season closes out. There would be nothing that would make me and our partners happier than to finish this season on a high note.”
