Charlotte, N.C. (October 13, 2011) – Each year the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation hosts a very special event to help raise funds for childhood cancer. This year was no exception.

[/media-credit]ESPN personality Kenny Mayne emceed as 14 teams in eight different heats raced their way to beat four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon around the track at Victory Lane Karting. Just before team racing began, Kenny Mayne and Jeff Gordon squashed their untold rivalry by dueling it out on the go-kart track one last time.
While racing Gordon was the highlight for sponsors and spectators, it was not the only reason the event was a success. Proceeds raised directly benefit the research and access to treatment needs of children battling cancer. Each school day, 46 children will be diagnosed with cancer and one out of five children diagnosed will die. Research, clinical trials and access to better treatment are staples in bringing a cure to this devastating disease.
“Every year we host this exciting event to support the efforts of my foundation,” said Gordon. We have launched a few extraordinary initiatives this year and with the support of this year’s sponsors they are helping make our new initiatives a reality. I can’t thank them enough.”
