Fords Excel at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Mooresville, NC (October 18, 2011) Roush Yates had an amazing weekend at their home track, sweeping the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Roush Yates engines head into next week with the points lead in NASCAR’s top two series powering Roush Fenway drivers Carl Edwards and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Chris Buescher picked up his third win of the season in the ARCA Series finale at Toledo, OH and Scott Bloomquist finished the Lucas Oil Late Model Season strong with a top five finish.

Ford power was evident all week at Charlotte Motor Speedway starting with qualifying on Thursday night. Roush Yates Fords made up seven of the top 12 qualifiers for the Bank of America 500 with Matt Kenseth, Edwards, Greg Biffle, and A.J. Allmendinger making up the top five.

Edwards kept the Owners Championship hopes alive for Jack Roush with a win in the Nationwide Series on Friday night. Carl held off Kyle Busch in the Dollar General 300 to earn his eighth win of the season.

Roush Fenway teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. finished ninth and walked away with a 15 point lead in the Nationwide Series Championship. Edwards’ win was the 12th win of the season for Roush Yates Engines in the Nationwide Series – of 31 races run.

Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway was all about Ford domination. Greg Biffle led the opening laps before a pit stop mistake that cost him a stop and go penalty. Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards took over to each lead laps during the 500 mile race. Kenseth took the lead with fewer than 15 laps to go and pulled away from Kyle Busch to win his third race of the season. Kenseth’s win bumped him to third in the Championship Chase with teammate Carl Edwards still leading by five points.

Chris Buescher finished out an amazing 2011 season in the ARCA Series with a win at Toledo Speedway and receiving Rookie of the Year honors. Buescher dominated the rain delayed race out powering Austin Dillon and Chad McCumbee. This is Buescher’s third win of the last four ARCA series races with his Roush Yates-powered engine.

Scott Bloomquist finished out the 2011 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with a top 5 finish in Chillicothe, OH at Atomic Speedway. He ended the season with an impressive 15 Lucas Oil wins. Bloomquist was proud of his runner-up position but is looking forward to start again next year.
