Gaughan Taking on Talladega in South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra
Gaughan drives the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra
He is an 8-time winner in the Truck Series
He holds two NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship Titles
Gaughan won in the GT class in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year
Mooresville, N.C. (Oct. 20, 2011) – Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra crew return to superspeedway racing this week as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series unleashes its brand of excitement on the fans of Talladega Superspeedway. Gaughan is one of two Germain Racing Tundra drivers that can boast leading laps in each of NASCAR’s top three divisions at Talladega . He earned his best finish in the sport’s highest division at Talladega , a track which he says is definitely unique.
“ Talladega is its own animal. It’s a little bit bigger and it’s got a little bit more speed and a wider corner than Daytona. At Talladega , where the finish line is it almost makes you race an extra lap there. A lot of things happen on that short chute coming to the finish line,” said Gaughan.
Gaughan has three Truck Series starts at Talladega , all have resulted in lead-lap finishes. His best start was in 2008, 20th, and his best finish was 2006, 12th. Of his three Truck Series events, Gaughan has yet to race the No. 62 in Trucks at Talladega . He says the race is 90 laps of preparing for the final 10 miles of the event.
“Racing Talladega , every move you make up until the end of the race, you are just testing to see what will happen if you make that move. If you make a move that costs you ten spots – that’s OK. You are just testing to see what will happen. The whole race, all you are doing is getting prepared so when it comes down to the end, you know how your Toyota handles and what it takes to move forward when you need to at the end,” explained Gaughan.
Watch and Listen: Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra competing in the Coca-Cola 250 from Talladega Superspeedway will be broadcast live on SPEED, MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio, channel 90, on Saturday afternoon.
