PGA PRO BUBBA WATSON NAMED HONORARY RACE OFFICIAL FOR SUBWAY FRESH FIT 500™
Watson to Drive The General Lee During Ceremonial Parade Lap
PHOENIX – PGA Pro Bubba Watson will drive The General Lee from Dukes of Hazard fame during a ceremonial parade lap as part of his duties as Honorary Race Official at the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™, March 4 at Phoenix International Raceway. The announcement was made today by PIR President Bryan R. Sperber.
Watson, who lives in Scottsdale, purchased The General Lee at the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction in January.
“We are really excited to have Bubba join us for the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™,” said Sperber. “The Fact that he’s bringing The General Lee just takes it to a whole new level. I think the fans are going to be pumped to see them both.”
Watson, who is known for his character and humility both on and off of the golf course, was excited to receive the invitation from Sperber to participate during the pre-race ceremony.
“There are a lot of similarities between the individual challenges and the level of concentration needed to succeed in both golf and NASCAR,” said Watson. “It is going to be exciting to watch the best drivers in the world fight to establish themselves in the early part of the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.”
