Carl Edwards on racing at Richmond International Raceway:

“Richmond is a fun race track.  We ran in the top five in both races there last year so I feel like we’ve got a really good shot at going there and competing for a victory.  Last time we had the fastest car and we have made great gains in our short-track program over the last few years.  We led 113 laps at Richmond last fall and finished second, so our plan is to improve on that this weekend.”

Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Richmond International Raceway:

“Richmond is a challenge to get the set-up just right when we practice in the day and race at night, but we plan for a decent amount of adjustability in the car to keep up with the track changes.  We had a great run last fall when we led 113 laps and finished second.  We’re taking the same car we ran at Phoenix last month where we would have finished in the top 10, but ran out of fuel on the final lap.”

Fast Facts

CARL EDWARDS will make his 16th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Richmond International Raceway this weekend. In eight starts this season he has two top-five, five top-10 finishes and one pole.  He sits ninth in points.

FOR THE RECORD… Edwards has three top-five and seven top-10 finishes at Richmond. He has led 236 laps and completed 96.3 percent of the laps he has attempted at the 0.75-mile D-shaped oval.  His average starting position at 12.1 and his average finish is 15.1.

ON THE TRACK… The No. 99 team will be bringing chassis RK-801 to Richmond this weekend.  This was a brand new chassis at Phoenix in March when Edwards finished 17th after running out of fuel on the final lap.

REWIND APRIL, 2011… Edwards was in 12th place with 85 laps to go. Without another caution to slow the race, he was able to pick off positions, one-by-one.  He moved into the top five with only 16 laps to go and finished the race in fifth place.
