CHARLOTTE, A FIRST FOR KING: This weekend will mark John King’s first visit to the 1.5-mile track of Charlotte Motor Speedway. King, under the direction of crew chief Chad Kendrick has had a strong season thus far. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie has notched one win, one top five and two top-10 finishes, while being the first Truck Series rookie to hold the series points lead for consecutive weeks. King currently sits eighth in the championship points standings only five notches behind seventh place.

CONSOL ENERGY: CONSOL Energy returns as primary sponsor for the No. 7 Toyota Tundra this weekend at Charlotte. The leading diversified fuel producer in the Eastern United States, in both coal and natural gas, is nearing its 150th anniversary. The Pennsylvania based company began production in 1864 and holds safety and environmental compliance as its top values and imparts those values to the more than 9,000 employees it has companywide, as well as the thousands of contractors who work for the company.

DAVIS LOVE: John King will show love this weekend by supporting ‘The Davis Love Foundation’ located on the deck lid and tailgate of the No. 7 Tundra. Davis Love III has 20 career PGA victories and won the 1997 PGA Championship. The foundation was founded in 2005 as a nonprofit organization with a main focus to help build and support those at risk for poor educational, economic, social and health related outcomes. For more information on the foundation and how you can show your support, visit www.davisloveiii.com.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 7 team will utilize chassis No. 001 this Friday evening at Charlotte Motor Speedway. King previously used No. 001 at Martinsville Speedway where he brought home his second top-10 finish of 2012. Additionally, this chassis has five starts with teammate Timothy Peters behind the wheel; including a pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2011 and two top-five finishes at Nashville and Bristol Motor Speedway.

COME OUT AND SEE KING AROUND CHARLOTTE: King, alongside teammates Timothy Peters and Todd Bodine will visit the Camping World in Statesville, N.C. at noon on Thursday, May 20th, to sign autographs for the store’s annual Grill Fest Event. The 11:00-1:00 p.m. event includes free lunch to all those attending. The trio will then head to Walmart Supercenter on Thunder Road in Concord, N.C. for an autograph session at 2:00 p.m. in an effort to promote the Truck Series race on Friday evening. You can also catch the drivers Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for autographs at Toyota Pitpass in the Midway at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

VISIT PIT: Performance Instruction and Training (PIT) is a state of the art pit-crew training facility that Red Horse Racing owners Tom DeLoach and Jeff Hammond started operating in 2004. The Mooresville, N.C. organization will host their third annual open house on Tuesday, May 22 from 6-9 p.m. The open house will feature an autograph session with Timothy Peters, John King and Jeff Hammond, live pit-stop demonstrations on the half hour and a Red Horse Racing race-used sheet metal give away. For more information on PIT and its training programs, go to VISITPit.com.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: King entered the SFP 250 at Kansas Speedway looking to rebound after a tough outing at Rockingham Speedway. After an incident in practice, the No. 7 team was forced to go to a backup truck. The Truck Series rookie started the 167 lap event from the 19th starting spot and drove a smart, consistent race. King brought home a 13th-place finish and maintained eighth place in the Truck Series point standings.

John King talks about Charlotte Motor Speedway:

As a rookie, how challenging is it for you to learn a race track and have a few weeks off before you race again?

“I learn so much at every event, that I would love to race each weekend. It would be nice to have that momentum carry over. The breaks are difficult; it’s like starting over every time we get to another track. But, these are the cards that were dealt and I do believe that I am mentally gaining confidence each and every week. We have super-fast Toyota Tundras and that I feel we can run competitive each week.”

Besides winning Daytona, what is something that has helped your confidence as a rookie driver?

“Something that did help my confidence was the ability to pull out a backup truck at Kansas and be competitive right off the truck. It says a lot for Red Horse Racing as an organization to be able to do that. Having a truck fully prepared in the trailer, with a rookie driver that has limited experience and still run as competitive as we did, was really great. We pulled off a top-15 finish and it gives me a lot of momentum heading to Charlotte.”
