No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes
Weekend Rewind: Iowa – The No. 31 BRANDT team had a good showing at the short track in central Iowa over the weekend. Justin Allgaier started from the fifth position and after leading three laps and running in the top-five for the majority of the 250-lap event, brought home a sixth-place result. The fifth top-10 finish of the season was the highest of the 2012 season for the BRANDT team.
Coming Full Circle: Allgaier at Charlotte Motor Speedway – Allgaier returns to the spot of his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start this weekend which came back in the fall of 2008. Since then he has made seven starts at the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS), scoring two top-five and three top-10 finishes along with leading five laps. Allgaier has an average start of 14.3 to go along with an average finish of 12.4. The Illinois-native scored his highest finish of third back in the fall event of 2010.
An American Salute – Allgaier’s No. 31 BRANDT Chevy will have a slightly different look to it for this weekend’s History 300. While the familiar BRANDT red remains on the car, the No. 31 Chevy will feature red, white and blue accents including stars along the racing stripe and rear spoiler in support of the NASCAR American Salute initiative and the Memorial Day holiday. The initiative was put in place by NASCAR to help bring the industry together in support of military families.
Part of the Muscle Team – On Tuesday night, May 22nd, Allgaier will attend the Muscular Dystrophy Association Muscle Team fundraiser in Downtown Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium for the second straight year. The evening will feature an auction to help raise money which allows MDA to continue to provide health care services to local families living with neuromuscular diseases.
NASCAR Night at Millbridge Speedway – Allgaier will join his crew chief Jimmy Elledge, along with other NNS drivers, on Wednesday night, May 23rd at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, NC for NASCAR Night. Allgaier will participate in the Mini Outlaw Series event, racing his own No. 99 kart.
This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will pilot TMS-327 in the History 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This is a brand new car for the BRANDT team and will see its first racing action on Thursday afternoon.
Allgaier on race week in Charlotte:
“The weeks leading up to the Charlotte race weekend are always a very busy time for the teams, but definitely no less exciting. We have a lot going on between the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Fundraiser and the go kart races at Millbridge Speedway with Jimmy (Elledge, crew chief)- and that’s all before we even get to the track on Thursday! Charlotte kind of has a special place in my heart too as it’s where I made my first NNS start. We’ve had some good finishes there over the past few years, but it would be really great to get to victory lane, especially on this Memorial Day weekend, with all of our friends and family in town. This BRANDT team has been working so hard and it would be awesome to reward all that effort and sacrifice with a win this weekend.”
