[/media-credit]Statesville, N.C. (June 19, 2012) – When it comes to road racing at Sonoma, Travis Kvapil prefers a less intricate approach. Despite the complexities of making left-and right-hand turns, his game plan for success is simple: keep the Burger King/Dr Pepper Toyota on course for all 110 laps. And who can argue with his strategy? In his three starts at the 1.99-mile raceway, Kvapil has never finished outside the top-25. He’s taking the same approach in this week’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 and hoping for similar results.
Kvapil’s best finish at Sonoma is 21st place, which he achieved in 2005.
Last week at Michigan, Kvapil started 39th and finished 26th. It marked the third-consecutive week that the No. 93 team finished at least 10 positions better than its starting spot.
This weekend’s event will be BK Racing’s inaugural road course race. Since the team began in February, it hasn’t raced or tested at any road course venues.
Comments from BK Racing Driver Travis Kvapil heading into Sonoma:
“Managing your equipment and staying on course is the key to a good day at Sonoma, basically finishing the race. I’ve been there a few times and always seem to leave with decent results. I’ve never been a top-10 finisher or a contender to win, but always have been consistent and steady. It’s challenging for me. Road courses and road racing aren’t my background.
“We didn’t get an opportunity to do any testing before we left for Sonoma, so it’s going to be a little bit of a learning curve to get up to speed and feel out what the car needs and what I need to get back in the groove. All of our team members have prior experience at road courses. We just haven’t raced at a road course together as BK Racing. It will be a new venture for our team.
“Our goals will be just like they are every week. To go out there and do the best that we can, get a nice solid finish. If we keep it one piece, take care of the transmission, the brakes, the rear-end gear, we can head out of there with a top-20 finish. Realistically I think that’s what we’re shooting for.”
