Hornish Jr. will pilot the No. 22 at New Hampshire

Hornish Jr. took over the driving duties on short notice in Saturday’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway after Allmendinger was suspended temporarily by NASCAR for failing a random drug test administered the previous weekend at Kentucky Speedway.   NASCAR notified Penske Racing on Saturday afternoon that Allmendinger’s “A” sample had failed.  Allmendinger has until Tuesday to ask for his ”B” sample to be tested.

Penske Racing said in a statement Monday it is working with NASCAR to ”follow its process and procedures.”

“Penske Racing is continuing to work with NASCAR to follow its process and procedures related to the positive drug test that AJ Allmendinger was notified of this past weekend. While this process continues, Sam Hornish Jr. will drive the No. 22 car in this week’s Sprint Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.” the team said Monday in a statement.

Shell, the sponsor of the No. 22 car have not commented on the situation since the suspension.
