Bristol Motor Speedway | NCWTS 200

Second Time Around: Parker Kligerman will travel to Bristol Motor Speedway this Wednesday night, just four days after the 22-year-old driver made his first start with the No. 7 Red Horse Racing team. After starting 11th, Kligerman kept his Toyota Tundra clean and raced well within the lead pack most of the afternoon, claiming a fourth place finish at Michigan. This weekend, Kligerman hopes he can continue the momentum and come away with a strong finish in the NCWTS 200.

Kligerman has competed at the stadium-style short track just one previous time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, but has two NASCAR Nationwide Series starts to his credit as well. In all three appearances, Kligerman has left with top-10 finishes.

“So far I’ve been pretty successful there with a top-10 finish in every start, both Nationwide and Trucks, so I look forward to improving on that and hopefully getting up front and challenging for the win,” Kligerman commented.

During the summer months, the very top groove of the track was resurfaced to change the characteristics of the racing. Those changes may be an adjustment during the race, but Kligerman is prepared for more close proximity racing.

“From what I’ve heard it won’t change it tremendously, but the new track surface will have an effect on the third groove, which is a groove I found that I could use pretty successfully. You used to be able to go up there and find a lot of grip. I think you’ll just see a lot more close quarters racing with the lack of that groove and even a little more contact and rough and tumble like we used to see in the old Bristol.”

Previous Race Recap: Making his first start in the No. 7 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway, Parker Kligerman set his sights on a solid finish to bring home after his crew worked countless hours to put together his Tundra for competition over the past week. New pavement on the two-mile asphalt oval created pack racing that relied heavily on drafting, much like restrictor plate racing. Kligerman put his driving skills to work and raced tight with the lead pack from the drop of the green flag, allowing him to pull away with a fourth place finish in the VFW 200.

Chassis History: Crew chief Chad Kendrick and the No. 7 Red Horse Racing crew have prepared chassis number 103 for competition at Bristol. This Tundra that Kligerman will pilot was driven last year at the half-mile short track by teammate Timothy Peters to a fifth place finish.

Describe the atmosphere and racing characteristics of Bristol.

“Bristol is obviously one of the most interesting tracks we go to all year, it has the biggest atmosphere with the stadium effect and the way the seating is setup. It’s a high banked, fast short track, so a lot of young drivers have experienced places that mimic Bristol but never equalize it. At the end of the day it’s just such a cool place to go race and the truck series always puts on a good show there.”

How does racing for a championship change your mentality and strategy for a place like Bristol?

“The old saying is ‘the best defense is a good offense.’ You just go into it with the mentality that you’re going to do the best you can and fight for the win, and in doing so, you usually protect yourself really well by staying up toward the front of the pack. The biggest thing for me there is to go and try to win and the points will hopefully work themselves out.”
