Roush Fenway Looks for 700th Top-5 Finish this Weekend at Dover

RFR has amassed 699 top-five finishes during its “25 Winning Years” in the Sprint Cup Series

DOVER, Del. (Sept. 28, 2012) – This weekend Roush Fenway Racing will look for its monumental 700th NASCAR Sprint Cup top-five finish as NASCAR rolls into the “Monster Mile” at Dover International Speedway.

The team earned its first top-five finish on April 10, 1988 at Bristol Motor Speedway, with a second-place finish that saw Mark Martin edge out future Hall-of-Famers Rusty Wallace, Bobby Allison and Richard Petty. The finish came in RFR’s sixth career NASCAR start.

“I remember earning our first top-five finish at Bristol with Mark in our first year together,” said team owner Jack Roush. “It felt like a great achievement at the time, so I never would have dreamed that in my career as an owner we’d be approaching our 700th top-five finish. We’ve amassed quite a record of strong finishes at Dover so I would expect that we could reach, and hopefully exceed that milestone this weekend.”

As an organization Roush Fenway has totaled no less than 11 top-five finishes in any Cup season since 1989. The team set an organizational record with 61 top-five finishes in 2005, the same year it placed all five of its Sprint Cup entries inside the 10-race “Chase” for the Cup. The team scored 50 top-five Cup finishes in 2008 and 45 in 1998. Roush Fenway has totaled 30 or more top-five Sprint Cup finishes in 12 of its 24 completed seasons.

The team will look to add to those accolades this weekend at Dover, where RFR boasts 50 career top-five finishes, dating back to June 4, 1989 when the team scored a second-place finish in its third start at the “Monster Mile.”

Roush Fenway Racing is the winningest team in NASCAR history, fielding multiple teams in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series with championship drivers Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Trevor Bayne. Celebrating 25 winning years in 2012, Roush Fenway is the leader in NASCAR marketing solutions, pioneering motorsport’s first team-focused TV program and its award-winning social marketing campaign RickyvsTrevor.com.
