Toyota NSCS Dover Notes & Quotes – Clint Bowyer

TOYOTA NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)

Clint Bowyer — Notes & Quotes

Dover International Speedway – September 28, 2012

CLINT BOWYER, No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing How was your car in the first practice session? “It was good. We need to be better in race trim. In qualifying trim, all three of our MWR (Michael Waltrip Racing) cars were pretty good. We’re gaining on it.”

What do you enjoy about racing at Dover? “This is a fun race track. I usually run well here. In the past, I’ve kind of struggled to get a good finish here, but always been able to compete well here and enjoy racing on this race track. It’s just one of those tracks that you really have to drive hard the whole time. If you let your guard down the least little bit — then it shows. You just have to reach down and dig the whole time that you’re out there.”

How big of a ‘wild card’ is the upcoming Talladega race? “It is and it’s going to be the wild card race. Things are so tight right now and the competition is so close it’s literally a point or two here and a point or two there — that’s shaking up the Chase right now. That race can shake things up in a big way. It can propel you to the lead or bury you. It’s one of those races that I kind of look forward to. I’ve won a couple times there and enjoy it, but I also know what can happen there too.”

How do you feel about the Michael Waltrip Racing mile-and-a-half program? “We’re running pretty well. Obviously, my strong suit is the short tracks and I need to capitalize on these (Dover) short tracks as much as I can. However, our cars are running good on the mile-and-a-halves and I’m looking forward to getting back to those.”

How does the success this season impact MWR team members? “I think it’s a big deal. When you go to the shop there’s so many people that are excited and thank you. They are like, ‘Thank you,’ and I’m like, ‘No, thank you man, you’re the reason and your hard work is the reason that we’re here.’ I just walked into a wonderful situation and it’s really a lot of fun to be a part of it.”
