No. 32 World Diabetes Day/Duroline Chevrolet News and Notes

Return To Texas…Miguel Paludo and the No. 32 World Diabetes Day/Duroline team head to Texas Motor Speedway for the second of two visits in 2012. Paludo scored a 14th-place finish after battling a loose condition and a vibration when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) visited in the spring. In his four previous starts in the Lone Star State, Paludo has tallied two top-10 finishes, 10 laps led, an average start of 15.5 and an average finish of 16.0.

Blue for World Diabetes Day…The No. 32 Chevrolet Silverado will unload with a completely different look when the garage opens this weekend. Paludo’s typically red truck will be blue at Texas Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway as the team switches to a special paint scheme in honor of World Diabetes Day on November 14th. The truck will feature the blue circle logo for World Diabetes Day, Paludo’s son Oliver’s name above the passenger side door and a collage of diabetes statistics and resources. Paludo, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes nine years ago, found out earlier this season that Oliver, only eight months old at the time, is also diabetic. Just weeks later, Paludo was named as a Blue Circle Champion for the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), becoming the first South American representative of the global organization.

What is WDD?…World Diabetes Day, the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes community, is held annually on November 14th. It was introduced in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world. While the campaign lasts the entire year, the day itself marks the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922.

Diabetes Fact of the Week…The World Diabetes Day logo is the blue circle, the global symbol for diabetes which was developed as part of the Unite for Diabetes awareness campaign. The logo was adopted in 2007 to mark the passage of the United Nations World Diabetes Day Resolution. Across cultures, the circle symbolizes life and health. The color blue reflects the sky that unites all nations and is the color of the United Nations flag. The blue circle signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes pandemic.

This Week’s Silverado…Paludo and the No. 32 Duroline Brakes and Components team will unload chassis TMS-216 at Texas Motor Speedway. TMS-216 made its debut in the spring race at Kentucky Speedway and has hit the track six times this season. The chassis has two top-10 finishes, with a best finish of eighth achieved at the fall Kentucky race in September.

Previous Race Recap… Paludo came to Martinsville Speedway prepared for short tempers and fierce short-track racing, only to have a late-race spin thwart his competitive efforts. Paludo remained patient and consistent throughout the 200-lap event, but brought out the final caution flag of the day on lap 188 when a spin, believed to be caused by a flat tire, put the Brazilian at the tail end of the field, costing him a top-10 finish.

Miguel Paludo on driving at Texas Motor Speedway –

“The intermediate tracks are hands down my favorite places to race, and Texas is probably my favorite of them all. This is the home track for the Turner family and a place where Turner Motorsports has run well in the past. We’re bringing a chassis that we’ve had good races in and learned a lot about, so it just keeps getting better and better every time we race it.”

Miguel Paludo on the World Diabetes Day Paint Scheme –

“I’m very excited about the paint scheme we’re running for World Diabetes Day this weekend; it’s very personal for me. November 14th is all about the 366 million people worldwide living with diabetes, but for me, it’s just about one person, my son. We’re going to be celebrating the day within our family, no different than a birthday or a holiday. I want to make it a day for Oliver to feel special and to remind him that diabetes can’t stop you from doing anything in your life. I can’t wait for people to see the paint scheme on the racetrack, and when you’re out there with your child’s name on the truck, it makes a race extra special; it gives you that extra push to bring it to victory lane for him.”
