MARTINSVILLE, Va. (January 15, 2013) – For 65 years, there have been two constants at Martinsville Speedway: fans are the number-one priority and the racing is edge-of-your-seat exciting.
So what better way to begin the historic track’s 66th season than displaying those sentiments boldly? “Your Track, Anyone’s Race” is the new, perfectly accurate slogan for Martinsville Speedway.
“Anyone who has ever been to a race here at Martinsville Speedway will understand that description,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said of the track’s new motto. “When my grandfather (H. Clay Earles) opened Martinsville Speedway in 1947 his philosophy was to take care of the fans, make them first. He knew that was the only way to make the business succeed.
“While we can’t control the racing, the way he styled this race track when he built it, with the long straight-aways and tight turns, exciting racing was pretty much guaranteed. I believe that “Your Track, Anyone’s Race” is a perfect description of a race day here at Martinsville Speedway.”
Last spring’s Virginia 500 is the perfect example of “Anyone’s Race.” On a restart with just a couple of laps remaining, it appeared to be a shootout between Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. But Clint Bowyer tried to make it a three-car battle on a green-white-checkered restart and Bowyer, Gordon and Johnson executed a synchronized three-car spin through the first turn.
While the leaders were spinning and others were wrecking, Ryan Newman hugged the first-turn curb, slipped under the melee and drove off to his first Martinsville Speedway victory.
“Ryan was running fifth on that restart last spring. He wound up winning the race. That’s why it’s “Anyone’s Race” here at Martinsville,” said Campbell.
The Virginia 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, the day after the Kroger 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. Pole Day is Friday, April 5.

Martinsville Speedway’s phone hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. To 7 p.m.
Martinsville Speedway’s ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
