Team Up With Grand Touring Vodka (GTV) for a Sweet Deal at Daytona
George to drive the GTV No. 5 Ford powered by Applebee’s
Daytona Beach, FL (February 20, 2013) – With only three weeks to go before the start of the 2013 NASCAR season, team owner Richie Wauters and driver Tim George Jr. were both looking around for a dance partner for the NEXTERA Energy Resources 250, the opening round of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Friday, February 22.
Wauters, whose long resume includes stints as crew chief for Kyle Busch and Aric Almirola, was looking for a driver who could take his No. 5 Ford to the front of the field on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. George was looking for a ride that could get him there as well.
Enter former NASCAR driver and past Daytona winner (1985 Firecracker 400) Greg Sacks who brought along his red-hot Grand Touring Vodka (GTV) brand and business partner – music mogul Bryan “Birdman” Williams. The stage was set for a victory lane party.
“To have a partnership with Greg Sacks is sweet,” said Wauters. “Greg is one of the best superspeedway drivers of all time. He suggested we put Tim in the truck. We’ll have a great Ford ready for Tim and our plan is to score big with the GTV Ford powered by Applebee’s.”
For Sacks, it will be a return to familiar surroundings.
“Daytona has always been a special place for me,” said Sacks, whose last outing as a driver was in 2010 when he drove the No. 88 NASCAR Nationwide Chevrolet for JR Motorsports on the 25th anniversary of Sacks’ win in the summer holiday classic. “I’m thrilled for the opportunity to be bringing the GTV brand to Richie’s team, Potomac Family Dining Group and the Applebee’s in the Mid-Atlantic region.”
The bedcover of the No. 5 GTV Ford powered by Applebee’s will prominently feature a photo of Birdman – the rapper, entrepreneur, record producer and CEO of Cash Money Records, the most successful rap label of all time with over 500 million records sold.
George Jr. is no stranger to the Florida superspeedway with one NASCAR Nationwide Series and three ARCA Racing Series starts on the legendary track. This will be his first start on the Daytona high banks in the Camping World Truck Series.
“I’m excited to have this opportunity with Richie Wauters,” said George Jr. “Richie’s success as a crew chief is well known. I really have to thank Greg Sacks, Birdman and GTV for this opportunity and Potomac Family Dining Group and Applebee’s for their continued support.”
