KANSAS SPEEDWAY, HARVESTERS KICK OFF VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE WITH NASCAR CHAMPION JEFF GORDON

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (March 14, 2012) – Kansas Speedway and Harvesters–the Community Food Network kicked off a virtual food drive today with the help of four-time NASCAR Cup series champion Jeff Gordon. The food drive to help hungry seniors will last until the STP 400 on April 21, 2013.

As part of the virtual food drive, STP is donating 10 pairs of tickets to the STP 400 to the virtual food drive. In addition, AARP Foundation, as part of Drive to End Hunger, has agreed to match donations from the virtual food drive, up to $10,000. All money raised from the virtual food drive will help seniors in the Kansas City community and our goal is to provide 100,000 meals.

Make a donation to the virtual food drive and your name also will be entered in a drawing for one of 10 pairs of tickets for the STP400 NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway or one of 10 hats signed by Jeff Gordon. No donation is necessary to participate. The website is www.feedingseniors.harvesters.org.

Gordon, whose No. 24 features Drive to End Hunger, which provides food and long-term solutions in the fight against older adult hunger, also helped Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren pack food boxes which will be given to low-income seniors at risk of hunger in the Kansas City community.

“I’m happy that we’re able to partner with Harvesters on something that will greatly benefit our community,” said Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren. “To have Jeff participate in this event, along with STP® and AARP Foundation, shows how important this program is. Kansas Speedway and Harvesters have partnered on events before and I know our fans will help support their community by donating to the virtual food drive.”

“STP is proud to again partner with Harvesters and Kansas Speedway on the virtual food drive by donating tickets to the STP 400. The local community has been so supportive of the race and we are proud to be able to give back and be part of this important cause,” said Jamie Kistner, Brand Director, STP®.

“Older people represent one of the fastest growing populations being served by the nonprofit agencies in Harvesters’ network,” said Harvesters’ president and CEO Karen Haren. “We are grateful to Jeff, Kansas Speedway and AARP Foundation for stepping up to help provide food and hope to this very special group of people.”

Kansas Speedway and Harvesters have partnered on other events that benefit the Kansas City community, including Harvesters’ BackSnack program and Americrown has donated food from race weekends to Harvesters to provide even more meals to the hungry.
