Actress Kate del Castillo to Serve as Honorary Starter for Auto Club 400

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (March 19, 2013) – One of Mexico’s most acclaimed and popular actresses, Kate del Castillo, will serve as Honorary Starter for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, March 24.

As Honorary Starter, del Castillo will wave the green flag to get the Auto Club 400 underway.  The event will be televised at Noon (PT) on FOX.

Del Castillo will soon star, alongside popular leading men Carlos Ponce and Christian Meier, in “Arranque de Pasion, La Historia de Ela,” an original webnovela produced exclusively for Univision’s online and mobile properties. A NASCAR-themed drama debuting on Univision.com/ArranqueDePasion on April 1, 2013 at midnight ET, “Arranque de Pasion, La Historia de Ela” is a co-production between Univision Studios and Kate del Castillo Productions, Inc., in association with NASCAR.

Del Castillo broke through with her award-winning performance in the hit Fox Searchlight/Weinstein movie “Under the Same Moon” which is to date the highest- grossing Spanish-language theatrical release in U.S. history.

She recently wrapped “No Good Deeds” with Edris Elba for Screen Gems, produced by Will Packer, directed by Sam Miller and she played the coveted title role of “La Reina del Sur” (Queen of the South) in the groundbreaking hit, long form prime-time mini-series for Telemundo (NBCU) and Antena 3 (Spain.) With rave reviews, her current film “K-11”, directed by Jules Stewart with Goran Visnjic, is in theaters now.

Her film credits include a powerful supporting role in the Roland Emmerich produced “Trade,” sharing the screen with Kevin Kline and she starred in the biggest Mexican hit last year Mexico’s political thriller “Colosio” based on the true story of Luis Donaldo Colosio, candidate to the Presidency, who was shot at very close range at a campaign rally, during the Mexican Presidential campaign of 1994.

Del Castillo has graced the covers of the top Spanish-language magazines, and was People en Español’s Best Actress, cover Actress of the Year 2011, as well as one of their “Most Beautiful People” twice.
