WELCOME, N.C. (March 21, 2012) – Richard Childress Racing will honor former NASCAR track and team owner Warner Hodgon, who passed away March 20, with a memoriam decal at this weekend’s NASCAR events at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
Hodgon was also president of Black Gold Oil Company, a RCR sponsor in the late-1970s when Richard Childress was both owner and driver of his No. 3 Chevrolet.
“Warner was a great friend and partner who helped change the landscape of NASCAR team ownership in the late 1970s,” said Childress. “I learned a lot about business from the advice he gave me over the years. He was there to help me with sponsorship from Black Gold when I really needed it. Warner was an entrepreneur with a great vision for where stock car racing could go and we stayed in touch long after his time in racing ended. He was a great friend and will be missed.”
