In his second OSCAAR Super Late Model start, Kevin Cornelius would pick up his first career heat win, as well as a fifth in the feature. It marks his first OSCAAR Super Late Model top five.
“It was a good night,” Cornelius said after the race. “I mean, we came to the track and battled again with a set-up issue we had most of the night. But the boys put in an excellent effort again and we got it figured it by the feature and the car was good.
“We still got some work to do – the car was good till the first caution came out and then it went away after that. All in all, leaving Barrie Speedway with all the fenders is a good night.”
He would finish second in his first heat on the night after starting third.
He would win the second heat after starting fourth.
As a result of his qualifying effort, he would start the feature in the fourth position. He would pass Tyler Hawn on lap one to move up to third. The 50 lap feature would only have one caution and that was at lap 24 when Rob Clarke spun around.
Cornelius would continue to run third after the restart till lap 28, when he would fall back to fourth after being passed by Andrew Gresel. He would then fall back to fifth on lap 30 after being passed by Glenn Watson.
He would run the rest of the feature solidly in fifth to pick up his second top 10 finish in two starts so far this year.

The next race for the OSCAAR Super Late Models is the Don Biederman Memorial Weekend at Sunset Speedway on June 29th and 30th. The Super Lates will be running a 50 lap feature each night, with the two races combined determining the Don Biederman Memorial Champion. Earlier this year at the season opener, Cornelius brought the No. 17 Super Late home in the seventh position.
“Really looking forward to that,” Cornelius said. “I love Sunset Speedway. It’s an awesome place to race and I’ve got lots of laps there, really comfortable there. Felt we kind of left something on the table the last time we were there so looking forward to getting back there and hopefully fighting for a win.”
Make sure to join us at Sunset Speedway in two weeks for a fun time!
