Richmond International Raceway II Event Preview
HEADING HOME: Elliott Sadler and the No. 11 OneMain Financial team head to Sadler’s home track of Richmond International Raceway this weekend to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Virginia 529 College Savings 250. Sadler has 20 Nationwide Series starts at Richmond under his belt, with two top-five and seven top-10 finishes and 76 laps led. His best finish of second came in 2005 at the 0.75-mile track. Sadler has 24 starts at the track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts.
SPECIAL PAINT SCHEME: The No. 11 OneMain Financial Toyota will don a special retro paint scheme this weekend to honor NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee, Jack Ingram. Ingram captured the inaugural Nationwide Series title in 1982, and won a second championship in 1985 driving the No. 11. He also won 31 times in 10 years in the series, with 29 victories coming at tracks shorter than one mile in length. 1,000th NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE: The special Jack Ingram-inspired paint scheme at Richmond International Raceway also serves as a celebration of the 1,000th Nationwide Series event. Sadler has made 221 starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and has accumulated nine wins, 54 top-five and 101 top-10 finishes.
LOOKING BACK: In the September 2012 event under the lights at Richmond International Raceway, Sadler competed toward the front of the field early in the race. Battling for second, Sadler and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., made contact, sending Sadler into the wall and caused major damage, but he was able to salvage a 12th-place finish.
LAST RACE: Atlanta Motor Speedway: Starting from the seventh position under the lights at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Sadler and the No. 11 OneMain Financial team fought a loose-handling Toyota for much of the 195-lap event. Trying to hold despite the loose condition, Sadler finished 18th.
MEET SADLER: Fans have several opportunities to meet Sadler around Richmond this weekend. On Thursday, Sadler and Ingram will meet fans at the OneMain Financial branch at 2710 Enterprise Parkway in Richmond at 2 p.m. Sadler will also participate in the Nationwide Series autograph session at the track on Friday at 3 p.m.
THINK PINK: The OneMain Financial driver will sport pink Oakley driving shoes throughout the entire Nationwide Series season to show support for breast cancer awareness and honor his mom, Bell. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, and is now a survivor. This season, he will also wear special pink Oakley driving gloves. TO THE POINT: Sadler sits in the third position in the Nationwide Series driver championship point standings, 26 points behind the leader with nine races remaining in the 2013 season.
