CASSILL SCORES 21ST-PLACE RUN IN SERIES OPENER

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Landon Cassill had much more success driving a race car in Daytona Beach than riding a bicycle.

While riding his bike during Daytona Speedweeks, Cassill was hit by a car. He suffered some minor injuries and “road rash,” as he put it, but otherwise was OK.

A few days after the street accident, Cassill competed in the DRIVE4COPD 300 Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway and rolled home 21st on the lead lap in the G&K Services Chevrolet.

Although the race was a fine one for Cassill, the immediate post-race wasn’t. After the front half of the field had taken the checkered flag, Dale Earnhardt Jr. tapped Kyle Larson’s car in the rear, sending Larson into a slide into the middle of the pack. Several cars were damaged in the ensuing melee as the field slowed, and Cassill became involved on the fringes, although the JD Motorsports No. 01 didn’t suffer major damage.

“It has been a wild week down here,” Cassill said. “But we finished the race, got in every lap and ran pretty well all the way. I’m pleased.”

Cassill leaves Daytona in 14th in Nationwide driver points.
