The Press-Enterprise in Riverside to Serve as Title Sponsor for NASCAR Pole Day at Auto Club Speedway

FONTANA, Calif. (March 7, 2014) – The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif. has partnered with Auto Club Speedway as the title sponsor of NASCAR’s Pole Day on March 21.  NASCAR’s new “knockout” elimination qualifying will set the pole sitter for the Auto Club 400 scheduled to run Sunday, March 23.

In addition to title sponsor of NASCAR’s Pole Day, The Press-Enterprise becomes the “Official News Media Partner”, “Official News Media Partner of Auto Club Dragway” and “Official Printing Partner of Lefty’s Kids Club.”  The newspaper will handle all of the printing of all Kids Club and Reading Challenge materials and will also distribute papers to all of the hospitality facilities as well as to all infield RV guests during race weekend.

The “Press-Enterprise Pole Day” begins at 4:40 p.m. (PT) and will consist of three knockout rounds. The process, which has drivers and fans alike excited about the 2014 change, is as follows:

All cars run as fast as they can for 25 minutes with the top 24 fastest cars advancing to the next round.

After a five-minute break, the second knock out round begins as cars run as fast as they can for 10 minutes with the top 12 advancing.

After another five-minute break, those 12 then run as fast as they can for five minutes to determine the pole winner.
