No. 15 Clint Bowyer RK Motors Toyota- Pocono Preview

Tricky Math?

CORNELIUS, N.C. —   After a fourth-place finish at Dover last week, the No. 15 RK Motors Toyota team travels to a track known for its somewhat tricky characteristics– Pocono Raceway.

The 2.5-mile track located in the Pocono Mountains is unique in many ways to other tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. With some of the longest straightaways and a wide pit road, the track is proud of its triangular shape, leading to its popular moniker, the Tricky Triangle.

Michael Waltrip Racing driver Clint Bowyer has never won at the track but has seven top-10 finishes in 16 races and has never finished outside the top 15 since joining the organization in 2012.

The No. 15 Toyota team tested at the track last week trying to find the right formula to conquer the tricky configuration. After Sunday’s 400-mile event, Bowyer and his team hope they found the formula that leads to victory lane.

How unique are the three corners at Pocono?

“Since the repave it’s a lot less drastic than it used to be.  When that track was worn out, you had three distinctly different corners and now it’s a little more the same, but still shifting gears — pretty unique race track. There is no easy way of getting around it.”

You tested at Pocono a few weeks ago. How did the test go?

“We felt like we could try and be better there so we decided to test. We had a good game plan going in and ended up picking up a little speed and learned a few things. Anytime you can test you learn something, whether it’s what you should or shouldn’t do. Hopefully it shows this weekend on the track and we have another good run like we did last weekend in Dover.”

CHASSIS

Chassis No. 809 serves as the primary chassis.  Bowyer drove this to a 23rd -place finish at Kansas. Chassis No. 795 serves as the backup. This chassis has never seen action on a race weekend but has served as a back-up, most recently at Richmond and participated in last week’s test at Pocono.
