Larson Leads Laps, Claims Fourth-Place Finish at the Magic Mile

LOUDON, N.H. (July 13, 2014) – In his second-career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson and his Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) team continued to be a powerhouse duo among the field, leading 11 laps on the way to claiming a fourth-place finish at the Magic Mile. Coming into the weekend with one previous NNS start, along with one NASCAR K&N Pro Series East victory in 2012, Larson’s speed was undeniable as he laid down the second-fastest lap time during the first practice session, followed by the fourth fastest in the final session. The 21-year old then claimed the No. 42 Cartwheel by Target Chevrolet a fourth-place starting position for the Sta-Green 200. As the green flag waved in the New England state, the first caution quickly arose and Larson climbed to the third position. Shortly after, he radioed to crew chief Scott Zipadelli that his Cartwheel Chevy was beginning to feel loose; but despite the handling issue, the No. 42 Chevy Camaro was one of the fastest cars on the track. Green-flag pit stops began to cycle around lap 80 and Zipadelli called for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco fuel and a slight wedge adjustment. After rejoining the field in the fifth position, the third yellow flag waved on lap 93 and Larson charged to the second position following the restart. The field saw its fourth caution on lap 108 and the No. 42 Cartwheel Chevy took over the first position, leading the field for 11 laps before dropping to fourth position when his car began to feel tight in the center. Able to maintain his position until the next caution arose on lap 141, Larson visited pit road for four new tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment to correct his handling. The No. 42 Cartwheel Chevy rejoined the field in the fourth position and once again laid down the fastest lap times on the track. Despite the efforts from he and his TSM team, Larson couldn’t close the gap between he and the leaders and crossed the finish line in fourth position.

Continuing a successful season at the midway mark, the No. 42 team now has two NNS victories, nine top-five finishes and remains third in the NNS Owner Point Standings.

Kyle Larson on Racing at New Hampshire Speedway

“That was a fun race. My Turner Scott Motorsports team unloaded a really fast racecar this weekend and we were able to do some good things out on the track. It felt great to contend for the win, but at the end of the day, the three cars in front of us were just faster. Zippy made some really good calls in the pits tonight; it was an all-around great effort by the Cartwheel team. I’m excited to get to Chicago next weekend and see if we can get another win.”

Turner Scott Motorsports operates out of an 110,000 square-foot state-of-the art facility in Mooresville, N.C.  The Chevrolet-backed team has created alliances with General Motors’ powerhouse team Hendrick Motorsports, which provides engine support for both its NNS and NCWTS programs, and Earnhardt Technology Group for drive train and suspension technology assistance.
