CONCORD, N.C. (July 23, 2014) – This weekend the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Reed travel to Indianapolis Motor Speedway to take part in the Lilly Diabetes 250. Saturday’s race not only marks Reed’s first start at the historic track, but a visit to the home track of presenting sponsor, Lilly Diabetes.
Reed will make his 25th NNS start on Saturday behind the wheel of the No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang. The Lilly Diabetes 250 will take the green flag on Saturday, July 26th at 4:30 pm ET live on ESPN.
“I cannot wait to get behind the wheel at Indy,” said Reed. “Not only is this one of the most historic tracks in the country, but to race in front of all of these Lilly Diabetes employees, it is an opportunity I won’t forget.”
It should be an action-packed week in Indianapolis for the rookie driver. The week kicks off with Triangle D Camp in Ingleside, Ill. on Wednesday, where Reed will share his inspirational message to fellow type 1 children. This is Reed’s third stop as part of the Lilly Camp Care Package speaker program.
Following Triangle D Camp, Reed heads to Indianapolis to visit the Riley Hospital for Children on Thursday.
On Friday, Reed and fellow Roush Fenway drivers Chris Buescher, Trevor Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will visit Lilly’s global headquarters, which is located just a few miles from the track.
“The support that both the American Diabetes Association and Lilly Diabetes have shown to me, the diabetes community and the NASCAR community has been so awesome,” said Reed. “They’ve really invested in me and my dream. In turn, I get the opportunity to spread the message that diabetes doesn’t have to stop anyone from pursuing their goals.”
For Reed, the action does not stop when the checkered flag flies at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This weekend marks the first of two Walgreens ‘Race Around America’ road trips for the 20-year-old driver. Traveling a route selected by fans, Reed will drive the Balance Financial Mustang from Indianapolis to Newton, Iowa.
