Tracy Hines Goes for First Silver Crown Win of 2014 at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—July 23, 2014 Tracy Hines has finished fourth this season with the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series. He also has finished third. And, twice, he has come home in the runner-up position with the series, leaving just one more spot to gain as he chases his first Silver Crown win of the season. He’ll have another opportunity this week at one of his favorite tracks, Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Hines will hit the track in the No. 16 Hughs Brothers/Midwest Sheet Metal Beast for the J.D. Byrider 100 with the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series on Thursday, July 24. Practice will precede qualifying, which will set the starting grid for the 100-lap event at the 0.686-mile paved oval, located just outside of Indianapolis in Clermont, Indiana.

“We have been pretty close to winning a couple of Silver Crown races this year,” said Hines. “We always run well at Raceway Park [Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis]. This is the last pavement Silver Crown race of the year, so that gives us even more motivation to pick up a win, which always helps in the points race as well. A lot can happen in 100 laps, so you have to take care of your tires and be there at the end.”

The native of New Castle, Indiana has raced twice at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis this season. He was victorious with the Honda USAC National Midget Series in the Night Before the 500 on May 24. A week prior, he crossed the line fourth with the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series.

In his career at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, Hines is the winningest driver in USAC National competition, with 14 wins, though he is still chasing his first Silver Crown triumph at the historic track. He won with both the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and Honda USAC National Midget Series at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Hines enters the J.D. Byrider 100 tied for the points lead of the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series with Kody Swanson. The 2000 series champion has finished fourth or better in all four races this season. He opened the 2014 Silver Crown campaign with a runner-up finish at the Terre Haute Action Track in his home state of Indiana. He followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the Hall of Fame Classic at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, a third-place showing on the dirt at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and a runner-up performance at Gateway Motorsports Park on the pavement.

Hines most recently competed in Indiana Sprint Week for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. His best finish of the six-race mini-series was a fourth-place effort at Gas City I-69 Speedway aboard the Carolina Nut Company DRC. Hines is currently sixth in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series.

“We didn’t quite have the Sprint Week we were hoping for, but we’ll put that behind us and focus on the Kokomo Smackdown next month,” Hines said. “We have a bit of a break in the schedule now, and after all of the races we’ve had the last weeks on the sprint car side, that gives us a chance to regroup and get everything ready for the rest of the season and the bigger races that are coming up in the fall.”
