MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 30, 2014) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rookie Michael Annett and his Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS team will travel to Pocono Raceway this weekend for the 21st race of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
It will mark the second visit in as many months to the Long Pond, Pa. track. The team will vie for a result as good or better than what they earned in June’s race. Annett and team finished 20th in his first-ever visit to the 2.5-mile triangle-shaped facility.
The event will mark the second return trip – Daytona was the first – to a track this year for Annett in his first season for Tommy Baldwin Racing in NASCAR’s premier division. If his 10-race splits are any indication, progression is to be expected the deeper Annett goes into his rookie campaign. His average finish in the second 10 races of 2014 (26.1) was an improvement of over three positions compared to his average in the first 10 (29.6).
The race will air live on Sunday, August 3 at 1 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.
GOLFING FOR ST. JUDE… Immediately following the race, Annett will travel to his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa to act as the honorary chairperson for the St. Jude Tournament of Hope at the Glen Oaks Country Club on Monday, August 4. The event will include a golf tournament and an auction, with proceeds benefitting St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
MICHAEL ANNETT QUOTE:
“Last time at Pocono was my first time ever seeing the place and we finished in the top 20. If I learned anything it was that restarts are extremely important there. That front stretch is so wide that it allows for a lot of passing options. We know we’ll have a good car, so now we’ll try to take advantage of what the track offers.”
