Elliott Racing – July 27th Race #18 Rick Woolner Memorial

Our team headed out early Sunday morning for the three hour trek north to Sauble Speedway. It was a good day, a little overcast, but no rain in sight. However, the weather man was calling for rain around 5 to 6 pm. The race was scheduled to start at 2pm and everyone hoped we would get the show in for the fans, and of course the family of Rick Woolner.

Our crew worked hard to get our car ready for practice and time trials.

The format for the day was time trials, and then two heats to determine the 50 lap feature line up.   Denny Snider is one of our sponsors. Project Track Champion Access Motorsports is Denny’s creation to help handicapped race fans get a chance to ride in a race car, prepared for them with access for their wheel chair to be put in the car. It’s an honor for us to be part of this awesome association.

The time trials determined our heat race lines ups.  We started pole in the second heat and won it, our 2nd Mod win of 2014.

Our car was very strong and we finished 2nd.  It was our best night this year and we got some nice awards.  We also won Top Qualifier through our heat finishes and Top Finishing Rookie in the class.

The family of Rick Woolner worked hard to make this event very special and not only increased the purse by their efforts but had gifts for all the drivers and their wives and girl friends.

Our car was fast right out of the trailer. We only made one set of practice hot laps, but we’re confident the car was race ready, it was very fast.

We held on to the top qualifying spot until points leader Gary McLean bumped us off the top spot .  Our team were thrilled to be 2nd fastest.

We started 7th in the feature and by lap 4 we were running 2nd behind Gary McLean.  Gary was faster on the straight-aways but we maintained 4 car lengths behind him for the first 40 laps.
