Chasing a Win
CORNELIUS, N.C. — The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series travels to Richmond International Raceway this weekend. With one race remaining before the 2014 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup field is set, Clint Bowyer finds himself just outside the 16-car field.
Currently in 17th place, Bowyer and his 5-hour ENERGY team can take solace in the fact that the Michael Waltrip Racing driver has multiple wins at the .75-mile oval, the most recent coming at this race in 2012.
Bowyer is 23 points from the cutoff point to make the Chase. Greg Biffle is 16th and rookie Kyle Larson is nipping at his heels in 18th, just one point behind the Kansas native. What does Bowyer have to do to make the Chase? The only thing that’s for sure is—win and he’s in.
“I like Richmond. It’s one of my better tracks. There’s really no perfect setup the way that track is laid out. The turns are so different. What works in 1 and 2 doesn’t work in 3 and 4. You have to keep that in mind when you are giving feedback to help set up the car. As far as the Chase, I think it’s pretty much spelled out, from a points standpoint, what we have to do to make the Chase. We just have to concentrate on qualifying well, getting a good starting spot and run our race.”
Hope Bowyer spins himself out again. Another “no chase” situation. Waltrip should have let him go when NAPA quit them, instead of Truex.
