· Reed at Richmond International Raceway
o Roush Fenway Racing rookie of the year contender Ryan Reed will make his fourth start at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) this Friday. Reed made his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series start with Roush Fenway at RIR in 2013, finishing 16th. In the next two starts, Reed finished ninth and 12th, respectively.
· The Car
o The No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes team unloads Chassis RK-825 for the third time this season. This chassis previously raced at RIR and New Hampshire Motor Speedway, finishing 11th and 12th.
· Riding with Ryan
o For the sixth time this season, Reed has a special guest riding along with him during Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Richmond International Raceway. The No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang will carry Katie Dodge’s name above the passenger side window.
o Dodge was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of two. The now 12-year-old has not let the diagnosis impact her big aspirations. She dreams of becoming a famous author, with books on the New York Times Best Seller List.
o In addition, Dodge likes to play the violin and piano, as well as making crafts. She enjoys spending her time singing, dancing and hanging out with her two best friends.
o “Katie and I share something very special in common, we both have type one diabetes and big dreams,” said Reed. “My hope is that people like Katie and this Drive to Stop Diabetes program will show other people with diabetes that they don’t have to stop dreaming big, and can still accomplish anything with hard work and dedication.”
· Visit the American Diabetes Association’s Drive to Stop Diabetes Midway Display
o Drive to Stop Diabetes presented by Lilly Diabetes will host an activation space in the fan midway at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The display area features the No. 16 Drive to Stop Diabetes racing simulator, diabetes awareness and educational materials as well as various prizes.
o Reed will appear for a Q&A at the Drive to Stop Diabetes display on Saturday, September 5 from 2:45 – 3:00 p.m. ET.
· Recapping Atlanta Motor Speedway
o Reed battled a loose race car in Saturday night’s NNS race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, ultimately bringing his No. 16 Ford Mustang home in 18th.
QUOTE WORTHY
Reed on racing at Richmond International Raceway:
“Richmond is a track that I have a decent amount of experience at, so I’m really looking forward to getting back there. Richmond is a fun track to race at, and we’ve had some strung runs there in the last year or so. I’m really hoping we can build on that, and put this Drive to Stop Diabetes Mustang up front on Friday night.”
