AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

This is your first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway, but it’s pretty similar to other tracks you have run. What are you looking for when you head to Chicagoland?

“Chicagoland Speedway is one of my favorite tracks. I love the city of Chicago, so getting there is always fun. It’s a place where you can move around. From top to bottom, it’s really racy. I’m really excited about getting back to a mile-and-a-half track. Mile-and-a-halves are my favorite and it feels like we’ve gone to so many different, weird tracks lately and just getting back in the rhythm of mile-and-a-halves will be nice because I have kind of missed that. I’m looking forward to getting to Chicago and we’ll see how we do.”

How are you as a teammate when it comes to “Playoff Time” in the Chase?

“I think it’s very important to work with your guys and try and do what you can because RCR is all that matters in the end for me. I’ll do what it takes to give them, hopefully, a few breaks when I can. You still have to race. You want to go out there and do well for your sponsors, and you want to have a shot to win a race for them at the end of the year to improve on next year. So you can’t just lay over for those guys because you’re racing, too, and you want to do well and go out there and win races.”

Last Time in Chicago … The No. 27 Chevrolet team started the 2013 rain-delayed event from the 11th position and finished 22nd after changing track conditions hampered handling of the car.

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:

How does Chicagoland Speedway drive?

“Chicago is one of the older surfaces we go to, which lends itself to being wide. You can run all over the track depending on where your tires are and what part of the fuel run you are in. It’s similar to Atlanta or Texas where you can start searching to try and find grip which is what drivers like. It’s got some character to it, the backstretch is curved and there are a lot of bumps throughout the corners, which keep getting worse with weather and age. So there’s a lot of character at this track.”

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES:

What are your thoughts now that you have qualified for The Chase?

“It is such an awesome feeling. I want to thank Caterpillar, Quicken Loans, WIX Filters, Kwikset, Lucas Oil, Chevrolet, Sprint and everyone involved who gave us this opportunity to race for a championship. I truly appreciate being where I am. I know how hard fought it is for everybody. I’ve been that bubble guy for quite a few years. It is so nice to be in now, especially the way we worked to accomplish this feat since this is the first year I have raced with RCR. This team has shown a lot of consistency. I think it will pay off in the last 10 races.”

Do you feel this No. 31 Caterpillar team can contend for the championship?
“We were up to fifth in points before the Watkins Glen crash. I think we can certainly contend. We just need to step up our game because everyone else will, too.”

When evaluating your team from the beginning of the season to now, what has been the biggest difference in your team’s progression?
“RCR has dug in as an entire organization to work on improving our aero program. The guys at ECR have done a good job in making a better engine package for us. We definitely needed that when looking back at where we were at the start of the season. The guys on pit road have done a good job at stepping up. We have had much better pit stops over the last few weeks than we did at the start of the season. All of those things add up. This is a whole new experience for me as a driver at RCR. As a whole, I am really looking forward to next season as I think it will be a better test of what I have learned working together with the entire RCR organization and its drivers.”

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTES:

What are your thoughts heading into Chicagoland?

“I’m really excited right now with this stretch of races. Richmond is one of my favorite tracks; Chicago is a really good track for me. Kentucky and Dover those are all a good stretch of races for me. We had a good top-five finish at Richmond, and hopefully we’ll go to Chicago where I’ve had a lot of success at in the past and come out ahead.”

Can you compare Chicagoland to another track?

“Chicagoland is pretty much it’s own animal. It drives a little like Auto Club Speedway, to me, with the seams and the grooves. But it is also a little different with the D-shaped backstretch and the uniqueness of it. But you have a lot of room and in these Nationwide Series cars where you are constantly working on momentum, it allows you to open up your entries and exits of the corner. I can’t tell you why certain tracks fit my driving style, but they do, and Chicago is one of them.”

TY DILLON QUOTES:

How do you feel about being third in the point standings with eight races to go?

“We’re very well aware of where we are and what we need to do to get to the top. I think we’ve had strong performances in the past few weeks, but we’re still able to build on it. We just need to stay focused and stick to the task at hand, capitalize on other team’s mistakes and win another race.”

This is the second time back to Chicagoland, what is your approach?

“We earned a well-fought, top-five finish earlier this year, which is something we are definitely going to improve on. I think we have the notebook and capability of winning this race. We’re going to really get after it in practice and dial this No. 3 Red Kap Chevrolet in and be very competitive for the race.”

Chicago has definitely got some character to it with bumps through the corners and the way the backstretch is. BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTES:

What are your thoughts on returning to Chicagoland Speedway?

“Chicagoland is one of those places I really enjoy racing. It is one of those mile-and-a-half tracks that I talk about with the double increasing radius corners, neither of them are like a traditional turn two. It has some bumps around there, which means it is a lot more fun than the places that are super smooth. So I am really looking forward to being back there for the second and final time this season. It is the type of track that I run well at, and where these new Richard Childress Racing Chevrolets have been running really well.”

How would you describe the backstretch at Chicagoland Speedway?

“It is as bent as a front straightaway at most places. It is not a D-shaped oval that we like to call at places like Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway. It is very much an O-shaped racetrack. You don’t need to follow the wall, sometimes our eyes and vision tend to make us follow it, but you can drive a straight line if you choose to, but it just depends on your driving style.”
