Another Comeback for Truex Jr. After Being Multiple Laps Down

Furniture Row Racing driver charged to a 12th-place finish at New Hampshire

LOUDON, N.H. (Sept. 21, 2014) – For the second straight week Martin Truex Jr. and the Furniture Row Racing team made a late-race charge after being two laps down in both Sprint Cup Series races.

Last week at Chicagoland Speedway Truex’s comeback resulted in a 14th-place finish. Sunday at the 1.058-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway Truex pulled off another respectable result, finishing 12th in the 303-lap overtime race.

And to add to Truex’s misery during the Sylvania 300, he was involved in a multicar wreck on Lap 181, forcing him to make three unscheduled pit stops for repair work to the right-rear quarter panel of his No. 78 Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet. The incident sent Truex to 32nd-place and two laps down.

“The guys didn’t quit on me today and I’m driving my heart out,” said Truex. “Though we made good adjustments today and came through at the end, we struggled for most of the weekend and need to work out some issues. But the guys worked hard and kept on making the car better.”

At a track known for its difficulty to pass on, Truex managed to pick off positions after a surprising number of late-race cautions.

“I never thought I would say this about New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but I wish the race was longer,” stated Truex. “We were moving forward and felt there were more cars that we could have passed. Finishing 12th was good today, but it’s still not where we want to be.”

The race winner was Joey Logano. Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, Jamie McMurray, Jimmie Johnson, Aric Almirola, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brian Vickers.

The next NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is Sunday, Sept. 28 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.
