Gilliland Has ‘Race to Finish’ in Kansas

Driver Returns to Scene of Violent, Fiery Wreck in May Race

STATESVILLE, SEPT. 30, 2014 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 MDS Transport Ford, comments on racing at Kansas Speedway:”Historically, Kansas has not been one of my favorite tracks, but earlier this year we were actually running OK. And then we got into one of the worst accidents I’ve ever been in. It tore up our race car, which is now sitting in Dale Jr.’s car graveyard. So, we’re starting fresh with a different car.

“I feel like we have some unfinished business. We have a race to finish.”Mile-and-a-half tracks are not all the same, no matter what people think. They’re definitely not cookie-cutter. The challenging thing about Kansas is just that you’re going so fast that you see guys that normally don’t spin out and wreck getting into trouble. You’re not just on the edge, you’re a half a step over the edge the whole time. And it’s easy to cross that line and lose control. You feel like you’re going 50 or 60 miles an hour faster than you are.”

JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 11 Sprint Cup career starts at Kansas Speedway … His top finish at Kansas is 22nd (2006 and 2008) … MDS Transport returns as primary sponsor on the No. 38 Ford … Gilliland will be at the Ford Racing display Sunday at 10am for Q&A with fans.
