Ross Chastain Joins JD Motorsports

THE WATERMELON KID JOINS JD MOTORSPORTS

Ross Chastain will drive the No. 4 Chevrolet for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller, with sponsorship from Watermelon.org, on this year’s NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Chastain, 23, has four years of experience in the Camping World Truck Series and raced in seven Xfinity races last season, scoring a top 10 at Kentucky Speedway.

Chastain, from Alva, Fla., ran the full Truck schedule in 2012, posting one top five and four top 10s. In 2013, he ran 14 Truck events, with four top fives and seven top 10s.

“Ross has an amazing level of experience for a young driver,” said team owner Johnny Davis. “He brings a lot to our team. We’re looking forward to seeing how far we can go this year with his input and the support of Watermelon.org and the National Watermelon Association. It’s going to be a big year.”

Chastain comes from a family deeply rooted in the agriculture industry. He has grown up working on his family’s vegetable farm, growing a variety of crops, with the last 15 years consisting of a strong footprint in the watermelon industry.

“It’s great to be involved with Watermelon.org, and we want to take them along for a great ride this year,” Chastain said. “I’m looking forward to working with Johnny and his guys and making a mark this year in Xfinity.”

The JD Motorsports team also will benefit from sponsorship by the Helena Chemical Company. Founded in 1957, Helena Chemical has grown to be one of the nation’s foremost agricultural and specialty formulators and distributors. Products and services offered include Crop Protection Products, Fertilizer and Fertilizer Application Services, Specialized Nutrients, Seed and Seed Treatments, Financial Services, and Precision Ag Services and Software. Helena also offers its own line of products — Adjuvants, Bioscience, Branded Fertilizers, Nutritionals, Seed Treatments and Value-Added Products — through the Helena Products Group (HPG).

JD Motorsports, a veteran, multi-car operation in the Xfinity Series, is based near Gaffney, S.C.
