DOVER, Del. (May 31, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, was involved in an incident just shy of the halfway mark of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway that ultimately led to a 43rd-place result.
“Tough way to have our day go,” said Bayne after the race. “We made some good adjustments on that pit stop just prior to the incident. I hate that we tore up our AdvoCare Ford. We’ll move on from this and look ahead to next week’s race at Pocono.”
Bayne took the green flag from the 31st position on Sunday afternoon at the one-mile oval and immediately reported that the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford had a tight handling condition through the corner. This tight handling condition persisted throughout the ensuing green flag run, ultimately costing Bayne a lap to the race leaders.
Crew chief Bob Osborne utilized a Lap 73 caution to bring the Knoxville, Tenn. native to pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment in the hopes of improving the handling of the car. Returning to the track in 32nd, the Roush Fenway Racing driver was able to overcome a returning tight handling condition to improve to 30th just prior to the first round of green flag pit stops on Lap 156.
Bayne would maintain his track position through a Lap 162 caution flag. Then, on Lap 175, Bayne was involved in an incident coming off of the fourth corner with the No. 46 car, heavily damaging the nose of the AdvoCare Ford. Unable to drive the car back to pit road, the Roush Fenway Ford was taken to the garage.
Determined to see the checkered flag, crew chief Osborne and crew worked for the next 185 laps to get Bayne back out onto the race track. Bayne would ultimately be scored with a 43rd-place finish.
Next week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Pocono Raceway.
