Bayne Records 24th-Place Finish in Pocono

LONG POND, Pa. (June 7, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, finished in the 24th position on Sunday afternoon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Pocono Raceway.

“We made a good comeback today,” said Bayne after the race.  “We made some great adjustments overnight that really improved the handling of our AdvoCare Ford, we just didn’t have that track position early. Thankfully, with a great call by (crew chief) Bob (Osborne), we were able to earn our lap back and gain some spots there at the end.”

Bayne began the 160-lap event from the 33rd position and was able to maintain that track positioning until the first round of green flag pit stops began on Lap 29. Despite returning to the track in 29th following the pit stop, the driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford would fall one lap behind the race leaders as the green flag run progressed. Crew chief Bob Osborne would utilize an opportune caution 20 laps later to take the wave around and get back onto the lead lap.

Once back on the lead lap, Bayne would work his way up to the 25th position before having to make his second green-flag pit stop of the afternoon on Lap 61. Unfortunately, due to the timing of the pit stop, the Knoxville, Tenn. native once again was put one lap down by the race leaders. Although off of the lead lap, Bayne continued to press forward, working his way up to 28th when the caution flag flew on Lap 121.

Crew chief Osborne once again used this caution as an opportunity to get back onto the lead lap and told Bayne to take the wave around. Now back on the lead lap again, Bayne brought the AdvoCare Ford to pit road on Lap 127 following the restart in the hopes of losing the least amount of time possible to the race leaders. The strategy call paid off as the caution flag came out two laps later, securing Bayne’s position on the lead lap.

In the closing stages, Bayne would work his way into the top 25 and overcome a rash of late-race cautions to earn a 24th-place finish in his first NSCS start at the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway.

Next up for the NSCS is Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 14.
