Quicken Loans 400
Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, Mich.
Brett Moffitt | No. 34 Dockside Logistics Ford
“Michigan is definitely fast and it’s smooth. But it’s very aero-dependent. So, if you get behind a few cars, you can really struggle for grip. Clean air is just such a benefit. You can maximize all the speed that you can.
“I ran the first race there last year, and the racing groove was definitely expanding. It’s not back where it was before the repave when they ran all the way up to the fence, but hopefully it’s opened up enough to help get some clean air.”
JUST THE FACTS: Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 will be Moffitt’s second Sprint Cup start at Michigan International Speedway … Moffitt earned his third consecutive Sunoco Rookie of the Race award last week at Pocono Raceway … The Dockside Logistics colors return to the No. 34 Ford for the Michigan race … Cottage Inn Pizza joins the team as an associate sponsor.
Cole Whitt | No. 35 Speed Stick Ford
“I think Michigan has widened out quite a bit since where we first started after the repave. When we first started racing on the new surface, it was like one black groove. And if you got out of it, whether you went low or high, you were in trouble. Now it’s opened up to where you can run the bottom and make moves on the bottom. And it’s got a long enough straightaway that you can draft and try to make something happen. I think there’s going to be a huge draft this year with this rules package.”
JUST THE FACTS: Whitt has two prior Sprint Cup starts at Michigan International Speedway … His best finish is 25th (2014) … Speed Stick returns as primary sponsor of the No. 35 Ford … Lionblood Clothing will join the team as an associate sponsor … Whitt will be at the Speed Stick display in the track midway Friday 2 to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday 10:30 to 11 a.m., and at the Keloorah concert stage outside Turn 3 on Friday at 8:30pm.
David Gilliland | No. 38 Love’s Travel Stops Ford
“Michigan is incredibly fast. It’s the fastest track that we go to as far as intermediate tracks in terms of top speeds and average speeds. And with this tapered spacer, I’m anxious to go there and see if speeds are going to be up. And the groove seems to be widening out, which is a good thing. It should help with passing. So, we’re looking forward to going there with our Love’s Travel Stops Ford.”
JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has 17 Sprint Cup starts at Michigan International Speedway … He has two top-20 finishes at the two-mile oval … His best finish is 17th (2007) … Love’s Travel Stops returns as primary sponsor of the No. 38.
