MARTINSVILLE, Va. (June 10, 2015) – Dale Earnhardt Jr. understands the significance of the long-term relationship between Martinsville Speedway and Goody’s®and was excited when he found out the two had renewed their partnership for the Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500.
“The great thing about the Martinsville-Goody’s relationship is that it goes back over so many years. It really shows the kind of devotion that Goody’s has to the sport and to the Martinsville racetrack and the area,” said Earnhardt, a student of the history of the sport. “They’re very proud of that relationship and they’ve grown it over the years. It’s been very productive for them and you just sort of associate one with the other: Martinsville and Goody’s.”
Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell and Joseph Juliano, Brand Director, Goody’s, announced this week that the long relationship would continue with the renewal of Goody’s sponsorship for the fall NASCAR Sprint Cup race for 2016. It will mark the 29th year of involvement between Goody’s and Martinsville and the 36th Martinsville race sponsored by Goody’s.
“Goody’s has been a part of Martinsville for close to 30 years and we are proud to continue that tradition by renewing our sponsorship agreement for next year,” said Juliano. “We are getting ready for this year’s Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 and look forward to seeing fans of Goody’s and NASCAR at the track.”
Earnhardt has great memories of last fall’s Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500. On race morning he announced a new partnership with Goody’s and that afternoon he made his first trip to Victory Lane at Martinsville, fittingly in the Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500.
“I wonder if announcing the partnership with Goody’s was the missing piece to the puzzle for getting that grandfather clock from Martinsville Speedway,” Earnhardt said, flashing his trademark grin. “I’ve been working for 30 races at that track trying to get that clock and I’ve come so close over the years. I’ve had some really, really fast cars and a lot of great runs, but never enough to get that trophy.”
The irony of the Martinsville and Goody’s relationship is not lost on Earnhardt. After so many Sprint Cup starts at Martinsville he is familiar with the headaches the difficult half-mile oval can create.
“The partnership with Martinsville and Goody’s is longstanding and got a lot of history, but it’s very fitting because Martinsville can be one of the toughest racetracks,” said Earnhardt, who has finished in the top 10 in more than half of his Martinsville starts. “I think a lot of drivers have walked out of there either taking a Goody’s or wanting, wishing they had a Goody’s after a race at Martinsville. It’s a tough old short track and win or lose, it can beat you up pretty good.”
The Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 race weekend starts with Pole Day on Oct. 30, the Kroger 200 Camping World Truck Series race on Oct. 31 and the Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 Sprint Cup Series race on Nov. 1.
