Wallace Finishes 34th in Daytona After a Late-Race Accident

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 5, 2015) – Bubba Wallace finished 34th in the No. 6 Cheez-It Ford Mustang on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway after being collected in a late race accident.

“The same thing happened last year at Talladega,” said Wallace. “I just got wrecked. It is always a product of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Cheez-It Mustang was fast, it just wasn’t our day.”

The NASCAR XFINITY Series Fourth of July night race got off to a late start after an early evening rain shower at Daytona International Speedway. Wallace lined up 14th in his No. 6 Cheez-It Ford Mustang.

By the time NASCAR called the competition caution on Lap 14, Wallace had worked his way up to fifth. Crew chief Chad Norris called his driver down pit road for fuel only. The rookie of the year contender lined up sixth for the Lap 19 restart.

At the halfway point, Wallace had dropped back to 20th, informing the team that he was too free on entry and too tight on exit. Green flag pit stops began to cycle through, with Wallace making his way down pit road for four tires and fuel on Lap 59.

When Wallace returned to the track, he radioed to the team that the handling felt much better. The No. 6 Cheez-It Mustang was moving into the top-10 as it was collected in the ‘big one’, on Lap 90.

The damage was too severe to repair with the number of laps remaining, forcing Wallace to retire from the race, finishing 34th.
With the result, Wallace is now sixth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series point standings, as the series travels to Kentucky Speedway.
