Kentucky Recap: Denny Hamlin finished third in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway, coming back from two laps down early in the event won by Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch to score his second-consecutive top-five finish. Hamlin lined up as the leader on the final restart on Lap 224 (of 267), but came out third after a three-wide battle with Joey Logano and teammate Carl Edwards. Hamlin settled into third in the #11 FedEx Office Toyota for the final 40 laps en route to the checkered flag. After starting eighth and quickly moving up in the running order, Hamlin felt a tire going down on the #11 machine less than 100 laps into the race. Crew chief Dave Rogers called Hamlin to the pits for fresh tires, but unfortunately, Hamlin was caught speeding and had to serve a pass-through penalty. The events dropped Hamlin two laps down to the leaders, but timely cautions enabled the FedEx Racing Team to utilize the wave-around rule and free pass to get back on the lead lap. Hamlin led twice for a total of 13 laps and the finish moved him up to 11th in the NASCAR standings following Kentucky.

New Hampshire Preview: The Series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for Sunday’s 301-lap event on the flat, one-mile oval. Hamlin is a two-time winner at the Loudon track, winning in 2007 and 2012. In 18 career New Hampshire starts, Hamlin has seven top-five finishes, 11 top-10 results and has led 469 laps at the track. He started third and finished eighth in the summer race at New Hampshire one year ago.

Hamlin Conversation — NEW HAMPSHIRE:

How confident are you in a solid run for the FedEx team this weekend at New Hampshire?

“Loudon has been a great track for our FedEx team over the years. We have excelled at the short tracks and New Hampshire is a flat oval that really suits my driving style. We have had some races there where we were the dominant car, and others where we’ve had to work a bit to stay up front. We have had a couple good finishes the past two weeks, and hopefully that will continue this weekend in the #11 FedEx Freight Toyota.

Belmont, N.H., Along for the Ride in Loudon: The FedEx Freight service center in Belmont, N.H., will be recognized with its “BNH” code letters on the b-post of the #11 FedEx Freight Toyota Camry this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
