ADVANCE NOTES
Reed at Indianapolis
Reed has made just one start in the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). In his 2014 rookie season, Reed finished 20th after starting 13th and suffering a mechanical issue near the end of the race.
Hometown for Lilly Diabetes
Indianapolis is the home track of Reed’s presenting sponsor, Lilly Diabetes. Prior to gearing up for the ont-track action in Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250, Reed and his pit crew will visit Lilly HQ on Wednesday for Lilly’s ‘Brickyard in Our Backyard,’ an event for Lilly employees held at the 111-acre campus in downtown Indy.
On Thursday, Reed will again visit Lilly HQ to speak at an employee town hall meeting and tour Lilly’s insulin manufacturing facility. Following the tour, he will head to St. Vincent Diabetes Center to visit with other children living with the disease.
16 Crew Wellness Challenge
Ryan Reed and Greg Biffle will both race the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes Ford in their respective NASCAR series races this weekend at Indy, marking Lilly’s first ever Sprint Cup Series start. In an effort to highlight how important it is for everyone to take better control of their health, including those living with diabetes, the crews of both Roush Fenway Racing drivers will compete in a wellness challenge during the week leading into the Brickyard. Both No. 16 crews will go head-to-head to see who has the most active minutes, takes the most steps and burns the most calories during the week. For updates on the Pit Crew Challenge, follow Roush Fenway Racing on Facebook or Twitter @roushfenway.
Riding with Ryan
American Diabetes Association® Youth Ambassador Hunter Sego of Madison, Ind. will have his name featured on a decal above the passenger-side door on the No. 16 Ford Mustang this weekend at NHMS. The rising DePauw University freshman football player was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was seven years old and has been an advocate for those living with the disease ever since. The Diabetes Care Act in the state of Indiana, or “Hunter’s Law,” outlines diabetes care in schools and was initiated by and named for Sego. He was also a spokesperson for Jerry Seinfeld’s “Stand Up for a Cure,” which is an educational video on life with diabetes and was shown in Madison Square Garden. Additionally, Sego is a top-five fundraiser for the Indiana American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®.
Loudon Recap
Reed finished 13th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday after starting 20th and making his way up through the field to record his 12th top-15 finish of the season.
2015 Season
Reed is currently ninth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings after one win and 12 top-15 finishes. He is the leading closer in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, improving a total of 31 positions in the last 10 percent of this season’s races. Reed and teammate Chris Buescher are the only XFINITY Series regulars to win a race so far this season.
Reed on Indianapolis
“Between the prestige of the Brickyard and how important Indy is for Lilly Diabetes, this is a huge weekend for our team. Indy is tough and you have to use a different driving style there. It was challenging last year and I had a lot to learn, but going back this year I have a lot more confidence. Hopefully we can get a top-10 starting position and bring home a good finish for Lilly Diabetes at their home track.”
Tune-in
Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series will take the green flag at IMS on Saturday, July 25 at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
