Brian Scott Contends for win in 200th NASCAR XFINITY Series start at Richmond International Raceway

In his 200th-career NASCAR XFINITY Series start at Richmond International Raceway, Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet led for 63 laps finishing in the third position. The Richard Childress Racing driver qualified third for the Virginia529 College Savings 250 and quickly took over the second position as the field entered turn one on the initial green flag. Scott maintained the second position before being credited with leading lap 54. The Boise, Idaho-native took back over the race lead on lap 82 and would maintain the lead for the next 62 laps. The Mike Hillman, Jr. led team made adjustments on pit road for loose-handling conditions on the lap 138 caution. Unfortunately the loose-handling conditions remained and Scott slipped from the lead to the third position on the restart. Scott maintained a spot inside the top 10 for the entire race, never falling below sixth. With 45 laps to go, Scott took over the third position. The final green flag waved with 25 laps to go and forced Scott to the fifth position after the field went four wide on the restart. Scott was able to gain two positions in the closing laps, crossing the finish line third. The finish moved Scott into sixth place in the driver championship point standings.

Ty Dillon Drives No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro to an eighth-place finish

Ty Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Chevrolet Camaro to an eighth-place finish Friday night at Richmond International Raceway, recording the team’s 18th top 10 of the season. Dillon qualified ninth earlier in the afternoon for the Virginia529 College Savings 250 and was able to race inside the top 10 for the entire 250-lap race. Dillon found himself inside the top five by lap 26, but struggled late in a long green-flag stretch because of a tight-handling race car in the middle of the corners. Four pit stops by the No. 3 team gave Dillon fresh Goodyear racing tires, fuel and the proper adjustments. Towards the end of the race, Dillon raced inside the top 10 when the final caution flag came out on lap 215. One final visit to pit road on lap 218 gave Dillon the stability to finish the race strong. He used the remaining 24 laps to his advantage and crossed the finish line eighth and moved to within 27 points of the leader in the driver championship point standings.

Start – 9 Finish – 8 Laps Led – 0 Points – 2

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“Our car was fast tonight and we showed a lot of speed in the beginning of the race, but unfortunately got a little too tight in the middle of the corners on some of the long green-flag runs. We gained a few points on the leader, we have two races coming up that we need to capitalize on.”

Austin Dillon Finishes Ninth at Richmond

Austin Dillon and the No. 33 Ruud team earned a ninth-place finish after battling handling issues throughout the NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night. Dillon started the 250-lap main event from the eighth position and remained a fixture in the top 10 through the course of the race. Shortly after taking the green flag, the Richard Childress Racing driver reported to crew chief Danny Stockman he was too tight. Dillon was called to the attention of the Ruud pit crew for service on lap 42 as the field was slowed for a competition caution. Receiving four fresh Goodyear tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment, Dillon rejoined the racing action in the seventh position. The 25-year-old driver continued to battle handling issues for the most of the remaining laps. The Stockman-led team utilized three additional pit stops to bolt on new tires, add fuel and make chassis adjustments to alleviate Dillon’s issues. With 50 laps to go, Dillon reported his handling issues had subsided and was able to move into the eighth spot before crossing the finish line ninth, earning the No. 33 teams 18th top-10 finish of the season.

Start – 8 Finish – 9 Laps Led – 0 Owner’s Points – 6

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“We worked the whole race to get the handling figured out on this Ruud Chevrolet. Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the boys kept fighting all race long, but we couldn’t put it all together.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 16th at Richmond International Raceway on Friday Night

Racing under the lights at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night, Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Resort & Casino Chevrolet team finished 16th. Starting 11th for the 250-lap race, Gaughan raced where he took the green flag for the first 50 circuits around the .75-mile oval. After a competition caution on lap 42, crew chief Shane Wilson called the black and yellow Chevrolet Camaro to pit road taking on fuel, four ties and a track bar adjustment. During the ensuing green-flag run, he raced his way into the top 10 being scored as high as eighth place. Wilson called Gaughan to pit road under green on lap 127. Just 15 laps later, another caution slowed the pace of the race and also put the No. 62 team one lap down. From there, they raced their way back onto the lead lap via the Lucky Dog restarting in 19th place. Gaughan would pass three more cars to finish in 16th place. As a result, he remains ninth in the drivers point standings as the series heads to Chicagoland Speedway next weekend.

Start – 11 Finish- 16 Laps Led – 0 Points- 9

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:

“For the last two races at Richmond, we have brought a great car and just didn’t have the finish we needed as proof. We got caught a lap down there after pitting under green, I was patient racing my way back to the lead lap via the Lucky Dog and got that, but just couldn’t capitalize there at the end.”
