Schilling to Deliver Invocation for SYLVANIA 300

Former Red Sox standout pitcher to give opening prayer before second race in NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup

LOUDON, N.H. – Curt Schilling, a World Series MVP, three-time World Series champion and six-time All-Star, will deliver the invocation before the SYLVANIA 300 – the second race in NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sept. 27. Schilling helped the Boston Red Sox erase an 86-year World Series drought with a 4-0 sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2004 World Series.

“I am honored to have been asked to provide the invocation for NASCAR and its fans,” said Schilling. “The people in New England are as passionate as they come. Tom Brady is free and NASCAR is coming to New Hampshire again – all is well in New England.”

Schilling is the second former Red Sox All-Star to give the invocation. Rico Petrocelli gave the invocation at the 5-hour ENERGY 301 in July.

Schilling retired from Major League Baseball in 2009 after a career that lasted 20 seasons. Schilling, who won World Series titles with the Philadelphia Phillies (1993), Arizona Diamondbacks (2001) and Boston Red Sox (2004), ended his career with a record of 216 wins and 146 losses, with a 3.46 ERA and 3,116 strikeouts, which ranks 15th on the all-time list.

This will be Schilling’s first visit to the Magic Mile since joining Sen. John McCain for a presidential stop at the 1.058-mile facility in 2008.
